It's the principle of 'happiness'. Modern humans value being 'happy' over personal responsibility. It's so prevalent in divorce situations. One of the parties "isn't happy" anymore, and thus they are able to completely override their own personal responsibility towards their families and oaths.

When the metric for what is right is tied to a state that can fluctuate wildly from extraneous stimuli you're doomed as a society.

People are constantly pursuing something that makes them happy rather than bringing personal fulfilment and purpose. The latter is often tied to duty, which runs contrary to procrastination.
