The last two Admiral showings came from Kizaru and Kuzan who were both shown to be heavily compromised. They still did decently in terms of feats and outlasted their opponents who were Conquerors.

Having a single Admiral fight where they actually show the same energy that Kuzan and Akainu did in their offscreen PH fight would work wonders.

Aside from that, logia awakening and better haki feats as Fuji pointed out.

The first post-surgery chapter is 1087, during the Garp vs Kuzan fight.
Even if we postulate that Oda is 4/5 ahead of publishing schedule, meaning that he already had everything ready through ch 1090 before he went into surgery, 1091-1092 have the doodles with Kizaru's clones and Lucci vs Zoro's scratchy skirmish, iirc.
So, maybe Oda does see better now, but we as readers have not seen a substantial improvement from it.
