Zoro blitzed the shit out of Sommers. The one time he had upperhand was because of direct clash which gram used explosion ability.

Sommers broke his mask after that and Zoro wasn’t able to cut his thorns before chapter
Zoro was able to use conquerors to cut his thorns but couldn’t use it consistently enough to pierce his heart
