I think he's just not meant to be sympathized with. I mean don't get me wrong, from what we know he has had a pretty bad life, but I don't believe Oda's ever portrayed him in a way that makes us want to root for him. He's like Blackbeard and Doflamingo in that he's purposefully ridiculously evil even for someone with his backstory.
Both kid and law had their sabaody moment even worse losing everything crewmates ship all their poneglypgh. Loda was brutal about it to let readers know these guys are out of the race mostly served their roles. Kid might ally himself with bb pirates become a subordinate and low only chance is trying to crawl back to the starwhats highly doubtful he will survive on his own. Both their dreams were utterly crushed i think this is step backwards in terms of getting conq haki
Oda dropped the ball
It should've been Sanji and Luffy against Gaban
Gaban does his attack
Sanji jumps infront of Luffy to protect him
Gaban meets zoro later and scoolds him on why his CoC is leaking
Tells sanji about his recklessness and self love
And scoolds luffy later against imu
Everything plays out

Yeah but the problem is we dont know how one piece final battle will end.
I think anyone remotely intelligent will know how the top fights go, Luffy defeats the boss, zoro and sanji the second and third strongest, essentially sealing the deal that the monster trio will be the strongest on the good guys side EoS
That's what's happened essentially almost every arc since arlong park. (with minor switch ups like kurobi having a higher bounty fighintg sanji but that doesnt really change my ground statement)
However, we know for a fact that a) oda doesnt see the Rest of the crew as that important of fighters (see this arc) b) they are alot of other characters Eos, depending on how the final battle will play out, that are unaccounted for.
Like if you said in WCI law and kidd will team up to defeat big mom no one believed you as it was totally baseless.
So oda can do whatever they want. I mean yeah they got crushed but then again oda showed them crushed is admission of importance itself, he could just not showed them and ignore them/forget about them like many other characters he does like smoker for example
