So here is the thing... I have seen a lot of people complain that Kaido wants to fight strong opponents and wants to die... yet never does anything. He does attempt to attack Whitebeard, but that was in a fit of drunken range.
So why this contradiction? Why does this drunken, suicidal...
Personally, I only keep up with One Piece because my mother's reading it LOL. I did read Vegapunk chapters for the hidden history... and it gave some good answers TBF... but Wano I mostly skipped and I've started skipping Elbaf when I realized what is happening.
My focus right now is D.Gray Man...
So I noticed I have gotten more and more tired of One Piece ever since Marineford... if it weren't for Oda dangling these sweet Void Century mysteries in front of us ever since Egghead, I am honestly not sure I'd be reading it any more.
And this basically sums it up:
One Piece is formulaic...
Not really. At this point, I am only really excited about D.Gray Man, though World Trigger and Akagami no Shirayukihime also get me reasonably interested when a new chapter drops. One Piece... I don't dislike it per se, and there are interesting things, but it is honestly feeling kinda sloggish...
So who are your top deuteragonists/tritagonists in manga and/or anime?
Mine are, in order:
Lavi (D.Gray Man)
Armin Arlert (Attack on Titan)
Matsuno Chifuyu (Tokyo Revengers)
Roronoa Zoro (One Piece)
Accelerator (A Certain Magical Index)
Hyuse (World Trigger)
Karma Akabane (Assassination...
Reviving this cos World Trigger anime is trash in Season 1, which is like... 90% of the content. But manga is actually interesting.
Anyhow... just something for fun:
Hyuse from World Trigger ends up in Season 1 Fairy Tail and has to fight a gauntlet:
Jet
Macao
Elfman
Lucy
Gray
Natsu
Ichiya
Gajeel
Erza
Laxus
How far does he go? Assume that everybody is in character, has no prior knowledge of opponent's abilities, and the fight is to the knockout. Stage is...
World Trigger. It is easily better than say Fairy Tail, and definitely on the level of something like D.Gray Man or One Piece. Yet I don't get the impression it is very popular, at least in the West.
To be fair, it was IIRC Luffy himself who said that G5 is his peak.
But yes, it makes absolutely ZERO sense, logically or thematically, for Luffy to get another gear. What he will get are new Haki powers and further refinements to G5.
Exactly. It turns on full Toon Physics mode, and there are no limitations. No limitations = no creativity to get around said limitations. It is exactly the problem introduction of Haki caused, except Haki was kinda necessary to explain how a fist-only fighter like Garp could be a powerhouse in a...
This is possible, but if it happens, it won't be a new gear.
4 means "death" in Japanese. Gear 5 is thus something like "rebirth", "resurrection"... in keeping with Luffy being a Jesus-like figure. Remember, he unlocked Gear 5 by dying and then being revived by his fruit.
Gear 5 is his...
Bloody hell, people. Roger here doesn't even have his moustache yet. How could he have even approached the peak of his power without it?
This is like comparing Luffy from Arlong Park and concluding he's a fraud because he nearly died beating a minor pirate.
Roger apparently knew enough to...
