While villains like Madara and Aizen are certainly fun (Madara was the one saving grace of the awful Naruto war arc), I would prefer if Oda steered away from this archetype, simply because it always feels like an asspull when they get defeated, and I'm okay with never experiencing another black...
Mihawk is the Diablo 3 of One Piece characters, by the time he does anything of note in the story, he will be so overhyped that it will look lame no matter what the feat will be.
To be honest, I feel like Oda could have left the "Blackbeard's father" info box out, the looks alone should be enough and we could have gotten the confirmation by other, more interesting means in the future.
Have we ever seen any other yonko talking about/with Blackbeard? Obviously Whitebeard, but his whole thing was "do not judge the child by the sins of his father, we are all sons of the sea". If Kaido / BM return we might get that interaction in the future.
If anything this shows Oda had most of these fruits planned since the early stages of the manga, before we got to conceptual bullshit and mythical zoans.
Should this come to pass, I always imagined Shiryu backstabbing Mihawk while he's dueling with Zoro and then stealing Yoru and running away, giving Zoro one hell of a motivation to fight him later. As others said, this theory has been around for years, and I think Shiryu getting the invisible...
