    Some of the old EU writers actually had Episode 3 Anakin as stronger than Vader, iirc. Him getting permanently crippled, charred, and needing a suit to live was supposed to be a permanent nerf in their eyes.

    Dark Empire was hated by SW fans when it came out, only for the sequel trilogy to come out and repeat the Palpatine returning plotline, but far worse.
