The Baiyue people

#1
All we know about the Baiyue people comes from a few panels from the Coalition Arc.

- Hara had Kou Yoku compare them to the Xiongnu steppe tribes in the North.
- Describes the southern frontier as a land of "endless battle" where "the strong devour the weak".
- Uses the Baiyue people to hype up Rinbunkun, who was able to overcome such a trial, having had to endure things on a completely different level to your average general in China.

While we all know how it ended with Rinbunkun and Tou and about the Chu arrogance/underestimation that was in display, it's nonethless very interesting me to speculate about the strenght level the Baiyue are on, especially their top of the chain guys. Rinbunkun did get his fame by killing 100 powerful warriors and stuff but there's a very real possibility that the best those tribes have to offer are on a ludicrously high level, given the general hype and mistery that surrounds them.

So:

How strong do you think these folks are?
Are they a match for other top tiers of China?
Might we be looking at something as overwhelming as Yotanwa and her mountain tribes (and a future match set against her)?

Given your thoughts/expectations.

Rinbukun is underrated tbh. Just because he got mid diffed by Tou, but Tou is at least top 5 strongest Kingdom characters right now. So it's no shame that Rinbukun loses.

I have RBK on par with Rinko, Gyou'Un, Bananji, CGR, Earl Shi, Akou and the likes.

Anyway, Baiyue tribe according to Kouyoku, is on par with Xiongnu, so that puts them above Quanrong tribe. And Quanrong tribe used to have Rozo as the leader and Rozo is a powerful fighter on his own, so Baiyue have guys like Rozo or even stronger. So Baiyue have fighters that can put up a good fight against top generals in China.

Yotanwa is gonna tame every tribes in China to her collection, first she conquered Qin's mountain tribes then Quanrong in Zhao then next could be Yan's mountain people (Ordo) or Chu's Baiyue and then her final challenge will be Xiongnu in the north.

I hope Hara shows more of mountain/normadic tribes in the future. I really like them.

Yotanwa at Bayou stated that the Xiongnu were far more powerful than the Qin mountain tribes, which is a scary thought. So if the Baiyue are similar to the Xiongnu then I fully expect them to be an extremely powerful warrior tribe with hundreds of thousands of troops at a time.

It speaks to the power of Chu that the Xiongnu pre Riboku were portrayed as an existential threat to Zhao, while Chu uses the Baiyue as training for their armies. Lol

Imagine some powerful Qin or Wei army invades Chu, runs into some tribe of Baiyue people witnessing how strong those guys are, then going forward finds the rests of a battlefield with 250k of those madlads massacred, gets scared shitless and immediately gets the fuck out of Chu. Lol.

I geuss if we were to speculate they seem very similar to the description we got in chapter 525, an extremely violent group within an intense environment, and as Ko Yoku put it: 'A dog eat dog universe' in which RBK proved himself by defeating countless of these
warriors (likely on par with generals) like how Bananji became feared in a similar environment.

I think they would be from Kouen's upper echelon, a special unit like Zenou's clan that would be used as a trump card.

The Xiongnu wolf designs are amazing so i hope Chu's barbarians are as good.

Now that reminds me, wasn't it mentioned that the assassin who one-shot a lion with a poison dart at the rebellion arc was from south of Chu?

Great minds think alike. :madmonk:

We'll have two major post-unification campaigns. This is why the legends of Mouten/Shin/Ouhon won't end at the unification and only Moubu/Ousen/etc of their eras will more than likely.

But we'll get a big campaign up north against the Xiongnu (300k) and a big campaign south against the Baiyue (100k-500k, likely 500k since Hara always goes with the exaggerated numbers lmao). We know Mouten for sure is going against the Xiongnu, so the Baiyue can be up for grabs for Ouhon or Shin or somebody else. I'm assuming the scenario will be Qin sends out an initial army led by somebody from the old gen, that then gets killed (since the Baiyue defeat the1st army that gets sent), and then Shin or such will be sent to deal with them.

I think he's part of the Yue people as a whole, but not specifically the Baiyue people. Sort of like how Xiongnu aren't the only Mountain tribes. Nanyue is one of the Yue people, Baiyue are just the Xiongnu version.

It's interesting that Hara is still updating Muta's stats like he's planing for his return at some point. I wonder what could be his role in the future.

Tou is most likely martially weaker then several charaters alive. Moubu, Man'u, Gaimou, Shibashou, Renpa, Kyoukai. Maybe current Rishin. Thats not including whatever hidden beasts Hara is still planing to introduce to the story like Kouen etc.

Anyway, Baiyue tribe according to Kouyoku, is on par with Xiongnu
He didn't really say that. He mentions them as a notable group of tribes in the south, just like Xiongnu in the north. Kouyoku never seen Xiongnu in his life, so he can't possibly know how their strength compares aside from overall reputational knowledge.

Moubu, Man'U, and Renpa I can understand but you think Tou is weaker than dudes like Gaibum and Shibashou? I don't see it tbh. As for Kyoukai, I like her but I'm not sure if she's stronger than Tou tbh. At least not in horse mount. Shin is definitely not stronger than Tou or even close to Tou as of right now.

I'm pretty sure Kouyoku said that he went with Rinbukun to hunt the Baiyue in Chu, so he at least seen one unless I remembered it wrong.
