With this chapter we had the fight between Lucci and Zoro being resolved. Zoro beat Lucci the moment Jinbe arrived and both are now able to flee Egghead.

And with this fight coming to a conclusion, we also can see, why it needed to be a stalling match and why Oda chose Zoro to stall instead of for example Sanji.

First off: Lucci is on the side of the SHPs and not on the WG’s. And not Zoro was being stalled, but Lucci was stalled by Zoro. And the reason why this is, are Kuma and Bonney. Oda needed the space to tell their story and make room for their plot to resolve. After this Oda has now brought father and daughter to safety and is now turning to the main plot-strand of this arc. You see this with Vegapunk coming into focus again and playing a crutial role again.

Now, it is time for Oda to let the match between Zoro and Lucci end, because Lucci is also a crutial part of this main plot-strand (Lucci has ties with Vegapunk). The reason why Oda chose Zoro as a stalling tool has to do with a very particular characteristic, which made him the only option: Zoro is easily getting lost. This is important, because with Zoro, Lucci is tied to their fight, because if he choose to abandon the fight, the chances would be high for Zoro to get lost. And as long as Zoro is gone somewhere and no one is able to find him, the SHPs and Vegapunk will remain on the island until he is found, because the SHPs leave no ally behind. This is why Lucci kept Zoro occupied, so that a SHP could come to get him. If Lucci had not fought Zoro, the samurai would have gone lost. And the spot on course of time proves this as we had Jinbe arriving just before Lucci allowed Zoro to defeat him.

This way Lucci now is for the first time free to carry out his extended agenda (I told before that the plan of the SHPs is flawed and that someone needs to stay back to keep Kizaru occupied, because the admiral can use his DF-power to easily bridge the distance and reach the Sunny.). Lucci knows that he needs to stall Kizaru for Vegapunk to be able to flee. This is, what he will need to do and why he will sacrifice himself. He wants everyone to believe that he is an enemy and that he can be left behind because of it. Otherwise Luffy would not allow the others to leave with one of them sacrificing himself.

Lucci will go against the WG and stall Kizaru.

There are some things, which are very strange going on with the Gorosei. First, we have their name-tag only stating the name of a Yokai or monster. Usually, we see within these tags also the DF-name, the person is using. Here however it is missing. It implies the possibility that the Gorosei are not Df-user, but devils themselves.

The, if we look closer, we can see the clothes of the Gorosei are also changing with their transformation. With a normal DF-transformation, we do not have this as seen for example with Kaido. Here however, the clothes of all Gorosei transform with them and disappear.

Thirdly we have to look at the transformations themselves. Nasjuro transforms into a very strange hybrid-form. His upper body shifts back to human, while his lower body remains as a horse. This is not the normal hybrid transformation of a normal zoan fruit. My question here is, if other Gorosei are also able to make such an unusual shift like this one of if the Gorosei altogether are not bound to one specific hybrid form, but may be able to transform every body part however they like.

If we are moving to the matter of the Gorosei arriving, it feels strange that Oda is now introducing every one of them within the same arc. The reason this feels off is:
  • The point of time he introduces them
  • The circumstance that Oda introduces them all together in one arc
Both points are very important. Because we are just at the beginning of the final saga. We do know that at the end, we will have the final war between the good (SHPs) and the bad (WG). The simple fact that Oda introduces the end bosses now means, he lets the reader have a taste of what is to come and what awaits the SHPs at the end. And he makes right now quite clear, how dangerous these Gorosei are. Oda draws them as menacing and dominating as possible to make that quite clear to us.

The Gorosei are dangerous – and the SHPs are not quite there to take them on, because they are still at the beginning of the last saga, in which every SHP needs to grow, as this will be crucial for them to be able to fight the Gorosei at the end.

By the way: This arc is heading straight to Marineford 2.0 – time to read the corresponding chapters of the first Marineford. 😉

So the planets are aligned and forming a solar system. We know the centre of this power system is SUN god luffy, and we have witnessed how the Lightzaru is basically controlled by the SUN intensity. Now we also have the MoonZoro arriving at the right time to provide support. Lets see how this struggle goes. I hope moon wont stray away from the orbit this time.

But the moon should be tied to the earth, not the sun.
