Nah I think it was ass, like let me elaborate: Obviously Anime is a different Medium and you cant, and should not, adopt 1:1 but there is a "scene intent", so to say. The intent and presentation of the scene in the manga was clearly we seeing, like even the anime itself said, a glimpse of Shanks power for the first time. And from a narrative sense of point that Shanks only did this because he saw how many of his followers were killed, so he avoided unnecessary action or conflict or power display, something the gorosei also commented or we really even see in chapter 1.
Instead, they made a whole spiderman ass scene getting to the ship and then the actual attack was overindulgent and unnecessary like they made even get the cannonball explode and the mast getting cut for no reason beside "look how awesome it is!"
As for kid yeah they did him dirty. They even make him himself cream destroying the puddle pirates which is like what the fuck

And you're also right the attack was kind of overly hyped there. It was always really devastating and powerful (that's the point of it in the manga as well) but they had Kidd getting thrown into the ship and everything, when in the manga he just got floored and couldn't move.
It can be done well but this was also ass, yeah, not smooth at all, because it was all the same scene so it was very jarring
