Robin is back! My theory is that her upgrade would be based on roses. A symbol of love, acceptance and reciprocity towards the crews. Demonio is just another form, black roses, a fitting form taken from her former enemy's name, Black Maria. Now, Robin has finally accepted the lives that Saul promised her through the adventure with the strawhat crews. It's now her time to return the love.
In Wano, she showed us her Demonio form. Despite not being shown clearly, Robin grew horns that looked nothing like her usual arm or leg clones. There were only two, but they were real horns. After all, horns are mostly made of keratin that is also found in fingernails and hair. Growing horns have a similar mechanism to her mille fleur technique: combining thousands of small limbs into the giant ones. It's just now, she combines the fingernails or hair into making horns. It's about time she would grow thousands of horns that will look like roses thorns.
Similar to Luffy, Robin's fruit is based on body manipulation. Therefore it is still within the range of possible manipulation, even supposedly the easy one. After all, they made her able to clone her clothes too. Before Fishman island, she could only grow body parts not clothing. (Clothing will be discussed below. Natural fibers)
Why is it important to go with this horn plot first rather than giving her armament haki first? 1) It shows Robin's greater mastery of her devil fruits that will bridge her to the next possibility of fruit awakening. 2) Although haki is good, makes your AP stronger, and should be standard for Yonko crews. It makes stronger attacks look redundant like elephant gun vs haki imbued elephant gun, or ashura vs haki imbued ashura, or exoskeleton vs haki imbued exoskeleton. Therefore showing greater mastery is needed. It is to avoid misunderstanding about power level concepts like what happens in the Luffy, Zoro, Sanji debate. They made Luffy look very weak without the gears, and made it even worse with the time limit. Meanwhile, despite losing the battle, Doflamingo is still fairly perceived by many as stronger than several later characters, because of his birdcage, and how insignificant his devil fruit usage was to affect. So far Demonio, and earlier gear fourth are still very draining. It shows that Robin has not reached the level of fruit mastery. Even Luffy got gear fourth after dealing with gear third drawbacks. So it goes like creativity > mastery > awakening (mastering creativity)
What is fruit mastery though? It's when the user is able to use their power effectively by adhering to its core strength. However, it's below the awakening level, where you can use your fruit power efficiently, like how those top tiers fight for days, because their fruits don't drain them. Mastery is like Doflamingo adhering to the string's binding nature, or Luffy adhering to rubber elasticity in G4-5 making him even more immune to blunt force, than when they tried to come up with the idea of faster, bigger, bolder rubber for G2-3. To Robin, flower core strength is its growth and harvest cycle. However, different from humans, actual flowers don't feel pain from being cut or damaged. Robin still feels the damage from her cloned body parts. This is where the horns plot starts to make sense.
Horns, made of keratin found in hair and fingernails, are the only body parts similar to that of flower core strength. It grows, yet it doesn't give you the pain when it's being cut. Different from limbs, fingernails and hair are naturally designed to be discarded at certain point. Haki is good, but Robin's level of portrayal will have her defense bypassed relatively easily by stronger opponents. If that happens, pains are felt. On the other hand, growing more horns may mean that Robin has the ability to stop the big drawback from her fruit: sprouting parts without the pain tethered from her clone. because horns are detached from the nerves. After all, growing horns and making it the highlight makes it closer to the concept of flower than growing limbs. It's just like what they did to Luffy after highlighting more and more power with each form, then they realize it all derived from the elasticity.
Demonio for Robin is like the gear fourth for Luffy. It seems random, draining, and unlocked for the same level threats (Since doflamingo is shown to have worse haki than cracker, Ulti pushed Luffy to gear 4th, and Katakuri's block mochi haki overwhelmed luffy. Doflamingo's portrayal looks like Tobi roppo level threat in terms of haki. In short his fruit mastery carries his image). Demonio can't be her awakening form.
The thing is, If Demonio is the black roses, like Boundaman to Snakeman, another form like "Angelo" that is based on white roses may exist too. Particularly as she will be seen by her friends and kids. Different from when she fought BM behind the ice wall. She'd be the symbol of scaring the enemies, while salvaging the friends. Demonio will only push robin to the core, and possibly get her to combine it with haki to double the AP. So far Robin has already shown her wings closer to the depiction of wings of Angels. The thing is, that wings were only used for flying or safe landing because it's made of limb therefore attached to her back. What I imagine with Keratin is that she makes actual wings, and the feathers can be detached, resulting in actual long-range attacks like Karasu. It's going to solve her pseudo long-range attacks. Demonio/Angelo aside, her awakening is more like growing the actual flowers. I'd like to call it, The Garderner.
Similar to Luffy gaining his beyond form, the gear 5-Nika, as his awakening. Robin will also get her awakening form, The Gardener. Her attack names so far only sound like "100 flowers", "1000 flowers" or "plants like delphinium". In fact, her attacks were more animal derivatives, and her giant limbs sound more like gear-third copies. She barely has actual flower names for her techniques which is weird since it's flower-flower fruit, not animal, and flower is supposed to be the next stage of the plant cycle or at least naming flowers is the next step that botanists do after discovering it. Thing is, with fruit mastery, the user usually shows the ability to mimic other devil fruit's ability, like Luffy spring legs, Robin's giants limb, Law's R-room and so on.
If, The Gardener, along with her flower attacks ever come to light. I can think of her creating a garden of Thorny Roses as her absolute defense. The form can also act as a metaphor of her journey with the stawhats. Seeding the doubts, growing roots of trust, the trust then grows bigger breaking the soil (after a hard time in time skip), the trust grows bigger, then grows branches (gaining alliances), then baby flowers (her being more vulnerable and open to the crew for help), then the flowers bloom.
Why would fighting Sommer help her achieve that? Similar to Magma and fire, Ton-ton and kilo-kilo, Ice and snow, Katakuri's mochi was considered a superior version of Rubber fruit pre Nika. In the fight, Katakuri's was specifically designed for luffy's growth (showing what Luffy does, he does better). Similarly, King was designed for Zoro (speed, mobility, defense, offense) and Queen for Sanji (overcoming technology used by his siblings in a person). Then come Sommer, whose branch-branch fruit seems to be a superior version of Robin's flower-flower, yet below Aramaki's Forest-forest logia. It will inspire Robin to use her thorny limbs more effectively, particularly on the part where she can sprout while receiving less damage.
