Exactly! Let’s be real here, Oda’s “I don’t care if fans don’t like it” bs is just as insecure as Kubo’s response.
Oda is out here getting heavily involved in the live action series because he wants One Piece to be more popular. He may be at the top in Japan but he’s clearly still concerned about competition overseas.

An author that would change plot points just for the sake of “subverting expectations” is the kind of thing the Game of Thrones series directors were getting called out for.
It’s just putting ego over the quality of your art or product.

I don't think the audience's opinion should affect you zero percent but you should still have a backbone to do your thing and not beg forgiveness for it when they don't like it.
When AOT's author started asking for forgiveness for that ending i lost all my respect for him. Yes you did ruin one of my top 5 favorite mangas that i used to rewatch multiple times and had been following for 6-7 years but atleast stand your base and say this was my vision instead of being a bitch.

Deidara vs Gaara fight *chefs kiss* followed by Sasori who by far most interesting Akatsuki member fought Chiyo and Sakura. Tenchi bridge was mid outside of Naruto vs Orochimaru. That shit was animated insanely. And then Hidan being put in a pack by Shikamaru was PURE AURA Deidara vs Sasuke hella underrated. and then the tale of Jiraiya the gallant, Battle between brothers. The Pain Arc. *Shudders* ppl really glazed OP to be compared to that insane run.
