Like @CoC: Color of Clowns stated, Katakuri's love for his family is a solid reason why he is one of the few who would kick Sommers ass. But honestly, even if Katakuri cannot annul his regeneration, fucking Robin beat the shit out of Sommers and I am pretty sure he would struggle getting free from a mountain of mochi suffocating him.

Lord Kuri is just being underestimated because he fought against the odds of pure plotarmor.
