I swear I heard Luffys VA was comfortable with AI replacing and immortalising her when the situation with Frankys VA happened, but I can't find it now, bah! Maybe my brain is gaslighting me as usual sigh lol.
I remember them saying they don't mind AI replacing them when they die though, but Luffys VA definitely said she wants Gokus VA to replace her if needed too.

Not sure how it works in Japan, but I just recently attended a 5-week workshop on voice acting (under the mentorship of Usopp's/Doffy's current VA on Filipino Dub), it is somewhat a must for an experienced VA to develop their own style... Nothing wrong with trying mimic but having your own along the way will make a VA stand out...
