How are Katakuri's ambitions so different from WB?

Or King's ambitions from Ace?
They´re not inherently different perhaps, but that doesnt change the fact that they are very different as characters.
Whitebeard was born to basically nothing, a shitty island, after that, he built his own way as a pirate, working as Rocks´s right hand man and eventually building his own crew and empire, an empire so strong he was seen as the ¨Ruler of the seas¨

Katakuri? He was born and inherited the fruits of Big Moms empire, and yet with Big Mom gone, he can´t maintain it. Can you imagine Katakuri trying to take over and take over Fishmen Island for example? Obviously not. And when Big Mom was alive, she and Kata didnt have anything close to a partnership like Roger/Ray Vergo/Doffy. It was simply submission on Kata´s part.
Yes, he shares the goal of wanting to protect his family with WB, but so does like, almost everyone, no?

Ace before he met was Whitebeard was already an established captain, and was attempting to kill WB, King was a nobody before he met Kaido. And when Ace saw Whitebeard going out, he disobeyed his own captains orders to fight Akainu. King saw his crew lose a major war and was content on spending his days drinking with Queen.

You've recapped how their stories differ but I'm not seeing the evidence of why those differences are disqualifying.

What makes Rayleigh or Gaban a Conqueror? Boa is a literal monarch, but she has no noteworthy ambitions. There are more examples, but the point is clear, the requirements for CoC are not as narrow as you make them out to be and the evidence is the in number of characters have it that don't match hold great personal ambitions.

Think of it like this. Rocks lost on God Valley, then Big Mom and Kaido made something of themselves. Big Mom and Kaido lose, and King and Katakuri basically give up on piracy or empire building. Perhaps Katakuri can rule Totoland, but this was almost handed to him. King doesnt even seem like he could have unified his crew under him.

Rayleigh and Gaban? Meh, I dont think I´m the worlds biggest fans of either of them having it, but it seems like we could argue they wanted to reach the peak of piracy. To see the whole world, become truly infamous and feared etc

The point is that they have it, and so many others that do not meet your arbitrary limitations.

A reasonable person might conclude Conquerors aren't defined by goals so much as how they live their lives generally.

Even how King and Kata live their lives is not like Conquerors lol. Can they easily make allies like Luffy,WB,Kaido, BM, Roger etc?

Kata lived his life similarly to Ace.

Katakuri sought to strength to keep his family safe, that too likely isn't all that different from WB's motivations for being a Conqueror, consider the safest of his banner was part of his pitch.

.
:goatasure:
Meh. Besides the insecurities and general trauma, not really. Ace went to chase Teach around the GL when Teach killed Thatch, and went to die for his captains honor. Kata hasn´t even tried to save Pudding yet, and allowed Big Moms honor to be tarnished.

And even Kata we can kind of justify having it, because his siblings naturally gravitate to him and respect him. King doesn´t have that respect among the beast pirates lol, he rivals Queen

IMO Mihawk was Nerona Imu's son/descendant, and the most prominent swordsman since Ancient Times. Shamrock was strong, but Mihawk easily surpassed him.

Until Shanks showed up to Mary Geoise, and beat Mihawk in a duel. Ever since, Mihawk has wanted to surpass Shanks, but then, gave up after Shanks lost his arm.

IMO Shanks is the one who taught Mihawk "humanity".

Mihawk's territory looks like a Celestial Dragon lair because he was given it after his "exile". Like Shanks, Mihawk renounced his ties to the Celestial Dragons, but enjoys certain benefits due to his bloodline.

Imagine God's Knight Mihawk? Holy shit.
Wouldntmind seeing this in the manga.
