Character Discussion Is Nami still the 3rd main protagonist of One Piece or is it Sanji now?

What is the core trio of modern One Piece?

Nami was probably higher in plot relevance before the grand line but since then Sanji has overtaken her. With that being said, there's no protagonist trio. Oda has reiterated this multiple times. Luffy is the MC and the rest of the strawhats are all equals behind him in terms of plot relevance.

It's Luffy then the rest...

Well, Luffy then Shanks then the rest :shame:

Luffy is the only protagonist and everyone else is just his friends allied to him. Dont force headcannon. Luffy is the savior, not Lolonoa Lolo. How can a literate man read 1150 chapters of one piece and tell lolo is the *second* protagonist. Lolo isn't, only Luffy is.

Luffy, Zoro and Nami.
Only Zoro and Nami joined on their own terms.

Also, where Usopp?
Hes no. 4.

Crying bitch spot was already filled by Nami befor Sanji joined.
Tough luck.

Definitelly Nami, she is well known in this fighting manga for her.... tits, i guess
+yelling a lot is what main characters do.
Sanji isnt main character, has top 3 panel time, but not enough yelling
Robin isnt main character, relevant in every arc she is in, but no yelling
Etc for rest of shs

Sanji fans will vote for Sanji and Zoro fans will vote for Nami, but the answer doesn't really matter. There's no doubt Sanji has overall a greater impact on the story, but that doesn't mean he's the intended "tritagonist". The thing is Sanji is bound to be more relevant more often because he's one of the main fighters of the crew and the SHs have to resolve conflicts by fighting strong foes most of the time.

Nami could obviously never outshine him in that aspect of the story, but she's been at the center of a lot of key moments and there's of course the whole key symbolic at Enies Lobby (Zoro and Nami being the only SHs having a relevant key that helped them win the battle and save Robin).

All the SHs are main characters anyway.

I prefer the side characters, and most of the main characters besides a couple already got their entire stories told, we know everything we need to know about Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, Jinbe, Robin, Usopp and it's the side characters that keep the story moving and interesting, their backstories, the different abilities the stories they weave together that makes one piece such a good story, I don't think One piece would of reached the levels that it did if Oda focused primarily on the main characters and left the side characters with no real development or purpose
I disagree. When is the last time we've heard about All Blue for example? Why is Robin such fodder? Whens the last time we heard of Usopp or Nami's dreams. Why was Zoro mostly inconsequential to Wano, the land of the samurais, where instead he should have had a better character arc? The roof top was great and so was the fight with King but mostly nothing before that, but we got a bunch of useless Smilies, Tama, and crappy retainer samurai who got loads of screen time just to mostly be fodder in the end anyway.

If you want to take it even further back, why was there no conversation about Ace dying? Or even Gear 5? The SH's have been reduced to the same meme panels and they barely interact in a meaningful way. All of these side characters are just noise, I don't mind side characters in general but Oda goes overboard sometimes. He didn't draw Akainu vs Aokiji because he was too busy thinking of new side characters no one will remember.

Feels like every chapter we are introduced to a new character when we havent had any real development even for Dragon and the Admirals in a while. I thought they would get fleshed out stories with the SH's too, but if the endgame is coming soon like Oda says then a lot of characters will be getting off-screened in one way or the other and a lot of them will be undercooked compared to the potential Oda set them up with in the beginning. Pre time skip was great and felt a lot more focused to me.

If Oda is planning on ending OP soon like he says, then I don't think he should be focusing so much on making new characters every 2 seconds. Most of them are just a waste of panel space honestly. Same with all the "panic" and "running" panels from fodder.

Okay rant over.

The Yonko Saga is defined as the "New Age" in the volume covers

hmmmm...

Law haters really seething at the idea that Oda choose a random edge lord as a co-lead of a saga :josad:
