Reread again this chapter
I found missing piece of the flow(like again)....

Apparently the M3 should have already known the situation above is extremely bad...i mean really bad through Gabban and chopper,
And I see no serious reaction or vibe from Luffy and co, they look like they don't really care to an extend, it's like a normal busy day for them.

Their crew literally got captured by the HK and at the mercy, and the supposed final boss IMU going crazy....
Yet the M3 shows no sign of realistic reaction in this chapter, especially Luffy tell them to go first, and join later, coz he needs to listen to a story first....

Ruthlessness is Mercy upon yourself
I just reread the chapter cause I thought hmm maybe I missed it but where's the strawhat? Shanks doesn't seem to have it 14 years ago
Its not with him in the hot spring, or even around the area

He's not wearing it when he's eating the pie

Theres not a glimpse of it anywhere

3 different panels of 3 different scenes and the strawhat isnt present in any of them

I have faith in Harald being a better character than Oden. Also how much of a manwhore was Gaban? :usoprice:

am i the only one who hates laban? dude has the time to chitchat w/loki but can't be arsed to go protect his own kid? if you can't take care of your children don't fucking have them. if you're too old to be a parent don't be a parent. he has his wife run the household AND take care of the baby while he's just chilling in a bath. he filled kid shanks's head with idiotic chosen one nonsense (even though ratboy is not a D so he can NEVER be that). a serial pump-n-dumper. didn't even try to save roger's son.
Yeah I was a little disappointed seeing housewife Ripley. Gaban might be joining serial cheater Rayleigh in terms of being a bad husband :josad:

i'm sick of him. fucking sick of him.

:MicDrop:
He literally tried to save his son only for Gunko to shut that shit down by threatening to pierce his neck..

Bruh he is severely injured lol

Ehh the flashback kinda looks interesting but I don't really like the timing of it. They could have at least gone to the surface first. This chapter was a bunch of nothing until the flashback hit. If Loki actually joins the SH's at the end of the arc though that would be pretty wild.

I am holding off imu till we see more and what all that was about benefit of the doubt

However I written the gorosei off. Not only did they lose any credible threat being Looney toons villains, in personally very disappointed in them character wise. They seem to be copy paste of each other character wise and incredibly boring, I hope they are not the final villains for z and s as people speculate as they are ass. Like the hks we seen so far, which we did for the same amount of panel time approx are way more interesting and entertaining

But I understand your point
Imu will of course be shown as a monster when the time comes. But it's never going to erase Imu getting dehyped before he could even have a single hype moment.
Let's assume it's some Kaido/Oden type relationship, Imu a bit stronger than Joyboy but still has PTSD, like Kaido a bit stronger than Oden but still has PTSD.
The difference is Imu didn't really get to be shown as an absolute monster before being shown as a bitch. Before Kaido got an L in Oden flashback, dude had massive hype after hype after hype.

As for
The butchering of Gorosei's characters bothers me even a lot more than their dogshit showings in Egghead.

Like, you can't observe the way Gorosei spoke and acted pre timeskip, and say with a straight face that they had the same personality as fucking Charlos.
What a disgraceful writing.

I mentally checked out of the broader narrative by the end of Egghead.

For years, I had been a big pusher of gorosei. Always had them as top tiers, back when a lot of the readers though they were figureheads and weak.
I actually liked the contrast gorosei had with the standard CD, who were spoiled scumbags, while they had a nuanced, wise king type energy back in the days. Even during their intro in Ohara, while stern, they also had a more diplomatic side. They even tried to give an out for the researchers, and preferred evacuating the civilians.
They were repeatedly shown preferring stability and minimizing casualties. Even when Imu asked them to test mother flame on Lulucia, they would've rather used it on sea, and expressed concern towards civilian casualties, before being bullied into submission by Imu.

Oda had written Gorosei with more nuance than fodder CDs, as he usually do for many of his villains (Arlong, Doflamingo, Kaido, Moria). While they are to be seen as bad guys, there is more to them than meets the eyes.
I had initially speculated Gorosei to be 5 amongst the OG 20 kings.

But in Egghead, Oda threw it all out of the window. Made them straight up behave similar to trash like Charlos. Had Saturn kill marines and even some vice admirals. Made them effectively slaves of Imu, who are the source of their immortality.
Oda had a great opportunity to make CDs more nuanced instead of cartoon villains. Gorosei in fact personified this in the past, with them very clea
There had to be a legit reason why 20 kingdoms joined up to fight the ancient kingdom.
But nah, they just villains cause evil, and humans insects something....... -_-

At least their feats can be chalked upto CIS and plot bullshit, with the usual trope of "I can heal". Even though it's very hard to see group consisting of 5 yonkos+admirals failing to even kill a single Strawhat.....
There is simply no saving the Gorosei's characters. Oda threw all nuance and individuality these character had under the bus, and made them Imu's slaves.

How cool would it have been if they were 5 of the OG 20 kings, who are ruled by the leader of the kings Imu (the king of kings)?

Could not agree with both of you more nor say it better myself.

I wonder if the slave hunting is what broke Shanks or something or just seeing the true nature of the Celestials or something like the slave travelator.

Since Shanks said he wanted a carefree life, he's clearly Yoshikage Kira er I mean I can understand why he would like the Celestial Dragon lifestyle naturally, all that unbridled power and freedom, the opulence of it all too.

Shanks mind might have been in a very dark place and vulnerable to manipulation with the loss of Roger and thus dissolution of the Roger Pirates and thus whatever Roger said to him too. He lost his first real family, his found family with them. They all went their seperate ways and I guess in some ways, he instinctively, unintentionally follows a "deadbeat" lifestyle because of it too.

It kinda makes me think of how GOTG3 ended and the potential consequences of it, it was a very bittersweet ending for such a profound found family saga imo, I loved the GOTG whilst it lasted.

If Shank is the so called "Child of Destiny" and thus groomed to be the next Joyboy, the great saviour of the world, then that would inflict a burde non him like no other and the pressure of that would be immensely overwhelming, especially for someone so young and arguably "innocent" too.

If anything this adds some tragic great depth and layers to Shanks I had hoped for and suspected he had too. If it's true ofc.

But I completely agree about the Gorosei, story and what not. I'm slowly becoming number to Oda's nonsense. Imu has been extremely cool so far since they took over Gunko but Oda immensely ruined Imu for me before that and I always expected the Gorosei to be the secondary final villains to either Blackbeard or Akainu, especially now we know that Blackbeard doesn't just want to be pirate king but king of the world too. Like Xebec even.

Oda ruined Kaido and Big Mom so much too, its devastating, heartbreaking and infuriating. Irreedeemable. Same with the SHs especially Usopp.

Not for me. There's only so many times Oda can metaphorically burn us.

On a side note, I really did enjoy and love this chapter and it's art but the plot is so badly paced again as typical Oda. But at least we're finally getting answers on Harald and Loki after ALL this time, just at the worst timing possible, as typical Oda. Loki better have a great DF too for all this baiting for ages too. Please Oda, don't make it actually Nika adjacent somehow.
My theory is that Shanks wanted to see both sides.

Shanks grew up with Roger and co, clearly knew they were not truly bad guys.
Roger might have told him something about CDs and wanted him to carry Joyboy's will (passing of the straw hat).

But Shanks wanted to see if his ancestors are truly bad, to the point they need to be violently overthrown.
So, he went back in, and tried living with them.

I don't think it's slavery that broke Shanks' trust in them. Cause lets be real, more than 95% of the pirates in OP are pieces of shit who would murder and enslave others themselves. WG was still a stabilizing force that protects and maintains peace amongst kingdoms who are willing to pay tribute.
(Though whether Oda as an author will consider this nuance is a different story).

Shanks already probably knew about Imu to some degree, since he clearly was in consideration for holy knights.
My guess is Shanks learned some more lore that is unknown to us, made up his mind and then decided to defect for good.

Are you under the impression Imu is the final villain?

Cause there was plenty of hype for Blackbeard defeating Law and his subordinates interacting with Saturn, who in turn revealed at least he is aware of BB’s on a level the audience is not.
I don't have anyone 100% locked in, but I heavily lean towards Imu being the final villain. But I recognize some valid narratives that point to BB being final villain as well.
If I have to guess, 80-20 in Imu's favour.

By the way, I think hype of BBPs took a hit too. I addressed it in my post as well, though I won't blame you for not getting that far down in that essay lol:
In one piece, for each sage, half the hype/energy is from the overwhelming power and presence of the antagonists. Crocodile and Mr1, Enel (GOATed) in Skypiea, Lucci and CP9, Doflamingo, BM and Katakuri, Kaido.

Kaido is the worst amongst these antagonists.
But if we were to erase the finale of Wano, and see how Oda built up this dude. It was insane. He had THE BEST buildup in one piece ever, the entire post TS was buildup towards Kaido. From the rumours as a Yonko, buildup as the strongest, to his intro falling down from the sky and owning Kid's group, to then blitz one shotting post WCI Luffy after all the "5th emperor" gassing.
Absolutely unreal buildup.

Contrast that with Gorosei and Imu, Blackbeard and his goons.

I've already mentioned about Gorosei. But Blackbeard and his goons are even worse.
They too were characters I looked forward to eagerly before Egghead.
Just for Blackbeard to mid-high diff Law inspite of DF advantage (while Shanks one shotted his peer Kid), Shiryuu made look like a jobber by old Garp, and the other BBPs not even treated as an afterthought before getting shit on (except Augur, dude was great)

To bottom line it and save us a drawn out debate - I think Oda has put in far too much effort into Blackbeard for him to fail where Rocks failed.

I believe the big twist of Elbaph is Blackbeard invading the Holyland and casting Imu down for his powers.

I suspect much will be revealed about Joyboy, the Ancient Kingdom and Ancient Weapons, the Twenty Monarchs, the Void Century, Rocks and BB's relation to him, the D Clan, and more.

:kobeha: This does.

You make Zoro look like Vegapunk. :kobeha:
Thats simply pointing out a weakness. Luffy with future sight couldn't pick up the flame weakness. Which means zoro undoubtedly has more battle IQ based on your statement. Infact zoro was the reason that they found out the seraphim weakness. He was just dumb at not putting two and two together that these seraphimas were also lunarians lol.

Yes so as admitted your are saying that luffys battle iq is WORSE than zoros
Luffy has consistently found ways to win.

He very much lives up to the stereotype of the dumb shounen MC with remarkable battle IQ, albeit through unorthodox methods.

Luffy's the type to figure out things out in the heat of battle and adapt in the moment

Meanwhile, Zoro won because King was a fucking idiot that didn't have the battle IQ to pick his shots better or when to turn off his flames. :suresure:
