Character Discussion Top 5 worst written characters

Go ahead and explain why he isn't good
Sure

shallow character writing. There’s isn’t much to his character aside from “strong”

doesn’t really push the MC philosophically. Only exist as a physical barrier. Which I guess cool if you’re a dumb brute who only reads for battles.

Inconsistent character writing. We have 0 idea why Kaido wants to kill himself or why he looks up to the samurai way

those are just off the top of my head,

Sabo is good but yeah he could be written better honestly.
I think it's just a matter of Oda barely showing us how the Rev Army works.
I’ve always seen Sabo as a way to fill the gap left by Ace’s death but also as a convenient excuse Oda used to give the Revolutionary Army that extra appeal it lacked, even if it didn’t really need it.

Every major faction in One Piece has its young, idealistic face to carry a positive message or emotional weight. Without Sabo, what would the Revolutionary Army really have had? Not much. And Oda probably would've given them even less panel time than he already does.

So I understand the narrative advantages of creating a character like Sabo. But personally, I think the Revolutionary Army would’ve been way more compelling if it were made up solely of characters like Dragon, Ivankov, Kuma and the like odd, mysterious, politically charged figures.

As it is now, the Revolutionaries kind of mirror the Marines: on one side you have Koby and the SWORD group, on the other you have Sabo, Koala, etc. And compared to pre-timeskip expectations, my interest in the revolutionary army has dropped off a cliff.

That said, I’m just sharing my personal taste. I have no problem with those who love Sabo and I don’t think he’s a bad character.

Also I don’t know if badly written is the best way to describe him but the worst character by far is Vander Decken.
He's a villain so he's meant to be nasty but yeah I also don't like him
Pedo scum with a shit design and a fruit way too good for a nonce like him

Shallow in what way? Even if you argue most of his personality is based off strength, Oda directly shows us that this is because of his circumstances. Mother fucker was like 7 years old fighting in a worn down country for survival with no parents friends or anything, just brawling fresh out the womb. He's centered around fighting specifically because he had to fight since he was being breastfed.
People like Kaido are exactly what Doffy was talking about in his Marineford speech. People who only know war and suffering have entirely different values and ideologies compared to people who only know peace and tranquility. Also, given all that, I fail to see why exactly he was meant to push Luffy into some type of philosophical break through. That's not his wheelhouse, that's more fitting for people like Kizaru and Akainu who made him realize that piracy isnt all fun and games and that he needs to take everything far more seriously. I have more to say but I can't let my cereal get soggy.

It’s not just that he’s a villain it’s oda trying to make him have this heroic end that I just couldn’t fucking stand.

I don't remember that but I honestly don't remember much of Fishman Island anyway
Oden
Kaido
Goofy
Shanks
Sabo
-He fought Oden, Big Mom, Shanks, Luffy after he ate the month supply of food, and probably fought some top tiers at God Valley. Plus he was planning to fight Whitebeard and wanted Roger's head (pause) at God Valley.
-He wants a valiant death.
-Read the one above.
-Was he not just too strong for it? After all, a character with normal durability like Issho or Shanks would not survive a fall like that if they didn't guard with Haki or anything. That was a feat only people with extraordinary bodies like Kaido could pull off.

-He fought Oden, Big Mom, Shanks, Luffy aft- Hey, wait a minute..
-He literally fought her though.
-Aramaki said it's the opposite, Kaido's presence kept the Marines out of Wano.
-Headcanon.
-Genuinely fair point, he should have rematched him, but whatever
-He didn't know immediately, from his point of view Oden just gave him the nastiest wound he ever had and was about to lay him out permanently, he had to do something to Oden before he got murked Ryuma-style so he clubbed him once he got back up. He had no time to notice the hag tricking Oden.
-Genuinely fair point

He didn't fight Shanks to the finish, he backed off as soon as he knew Shanks would win lmfao

Kaido is a pussy who chose to fortify Wano of all places because it is difficult for the Marines he is hiding from to invade

Bro you really think he would fight a top tier and his entire crew to the death all by himself with only King to help him? That's like an elephant with a rhino vs another elephant with like 10 rhinos aiding him

because he felt confident due to being a bitch and having 5 years to prepare to fight Oden and gain an army just to ounumber Oden
Only when she was surrounded by his crew without her homies
before that he was crying at her coming to Wano
Got bitched so hard he ran away and immediately put Shanks among his top 5 pirates
while forgetting that he supposedly loves fighting and die and should've fought Shanks to death
Luffy after he ate the month supply of food
rookie luffy who was YC1 level at the start of the fight and was growing while fighting him*
...while jumping off to die in the middle of nowhere?

No he's not.
That's like Logia acting too strong because it cannot be beaten by anything but then not trying haki attacks.

A fodder survived a fall from sky island with a head bump

The fact that this needs to be explained shows how much you lack critical thinking

.
You literally headcanon all of this. This is why Kaido is shallow, you have to invent stuff to give him depth
