I wish Loda wasn't such a bum ass writer that he frequently feels the needs to substitute flashbacks in the place of actual character development and proper world building. I know it's to flesh out the characters and the world within it, but it seems that for most characters the majority of their characterization begins and ends with flashbacks. It also doesn't help that it interrupts the flow of the plot sometimes, this one being the latest example of it.
