I think Buggy being pk is not subversion for subversion sake.
Luffy has clearly declared his real dream is not being PK, so he sees PK as the only means to get his dream happening.
I believe he will achieve his dream without being PK, and Buggy is gonna take it.
Otherwise what's the point of introducing a "real dream" after Wano

That Luffy has a (bullshit) secret dream beyone PK, the fulfilment of which necessitates the PK title in the first place is one thing, but Oda won't be able to successfully spin 30 years of Luffy going around shouting, "Imma be Pirate King!", only to then have him admit that, "I never cared for the title anyway. You can have it, Bugs."

Hot take incoming: a subversion along this same line that would have made sense in-universe would be Naruto. He spends all series sperging over the hokage position, but EOS he should've turned it down in Sasuke's favor. That would be he culmination of the talk-no-jutsu: achieve the most without action. By making hokage the first Uchiha ever, it leads the Leaf to finally heal its internal social wound to a degree that Hokage Naruto could never reach.

Many expected Luffy to never get a Yonko title, claiming that him becoming PK will automatically put him above any Yonko, yet Oda went another route. Luffy may end up being the last and greatest Sun God, but he set out to be the next Roger, so he needs to obtain Roger's title first, even if his being Nika is above that.

Why do you guys act like Shiryu has reached his peak? He’s clearly the BBP equivalent of Zoro who’s growing too. This is like using pre ts Zoro anti feats to scale his current version. Shiryu will get stronger

Because Zoro was young and is still growing into his prime years.

Completely different for a middle aged man who already experienced all that and yet got no diffed by Sengoku, Kuzan, dropped by an injured Garb and is afraid of Magellan.

His dirty gimmick style won't work against "Hawkeye" who has a "clairvoyant" ability and shrugs off to Shanks high level ACoO.

By the same logic Kinemon no diffs Ace and Sabo because he can cut fire.

Kinemon with the DF counter, CoA, better situational awareness and higher fight IQ beats overrated Ace who never reached his potential.

This whole "I will avenge him" doesn't work on Zoro since their relationship isn't the same as Luffy/Shanks. For Zoro, Mihawk is someone he simply has to surpass and he'll damn well not hold back when he's infront of achieving his dream that he put so much into. If there was St least another Mihawk/Ryuma level swordsman with a BB then this could've possibly worked, Shiryu is simply too weak for this.

Mihawk is portrayed as the perfect fighter. Style, speed, strength, skill, haki, black sword - he has it all. The world knows it, he does as well.

But that might just be his one weakness.

Against someone like Shanks, an honorable fighter I guess, he manages to draw/win. Against Shilliew, an opportunitist like BB, he might lose due to arrogance. After all those years on top Mihawk might be a bit conceited, convinced of his own invincibility. And just like that, in a flash, Shilliew gains victory against someone stronger.

– Shiryu was "only" 42 when he joined BB. Still has 15-20 peak years. Compare to WB, BB or Oden that also progressed a lot between 35-40. Green Bull and Fujitora as well.

– Shiryu likely has very low mileage. He took out tired, scared, injured, malnourished bad guys in Impel Down without receiving too many battle scars himself.

– Shiryu was a shark in a small pond. Venturing outside of Impel Down allows him to grow by fighting the likes of Garp, haki bloom he would never have achieved in Impel Down.

Damn this means Zoro will never suprass Mihawk as he not only has a crew to rely upon on but he also collected before entering the grandline, more in Grandline, and than an eye in ts
