To be fair. At least Oda is planting seeds. I don't think Oda would be shameless enough to pull a kaguya or whatever Aizen did to Ichigo.

Yeah I personally hope its not to that extent either. I think there will be some deliberate manipulation on Shanks part but nothing to this extent. Kinda like how Dumbledore was using Harry or something like that?

But at the same time, despite whatever this nonsense about the cursed mark on his arm or w/e, I think Shanks losing his arm and thus that mark was just "good karma" for him, to be "freed" from "the devil's contract/slavery" or so, like how Neji was bound by that cursed seal mark or even Orochimaru's cursed seals on his victims er I mean "disciples/subjects".

I think Shanks saving Luffy in that moment and risking his own life, invoked a sort of "divine intervention" of fate at least, of luck and in that moment where he gave his arm and almost his own life, he was given freedom from this forced servitude to Imu and such potentially. Well partially forced servitude at least I guess? And thus Luffy "saved/freed" Shanks unintentionally and unknowingly when this incident happened? And thus Shanks was the first person Luffy saved and freed already? If that makes sense?

Oda is definitely giving Imu time to develop and be better written as you said, to let the seeds grow as you said too, which is so fitting thematically too towards the series and Imu themself lol.
