Blackbeard wouldn't be a good foil if he didn't have his own powerful lineage. Two sides of a coin him and Luffy.
In general though, we've seen this time and time again in this series. Various people are linked to prominent members of their family who wind up being powerful with some of them going beyond their family in power, infamy, or both - be it current, immediate family or past family that is long dead that gets revealed later.
For me it's fine. It makes things interesting.
