i'd have been fine with early op/pre time skip levels of nepotism

But now, it's all about reincarnation, special lineage and all that

takes away from one of the core themes of early op that hard work does matter. Now it certainly doesn't cause every tom dick and harry have some important figure from the past as their fathers and are super special

Honestly makes the op world feel small

Tbf, it didn’t really put emphasis in hard work. Even early One Piece is about faith, dreams, and a lot of luck. We are just following a bunch of very special people, heavy inspirations from epic stories or religions. Nika and his crew is basically just like god and his apostles doing miracles island to island.

To even mention Nika is hilarious because for the first 1000 chapters, the narrative held an understanding that Gum Gum was a random, unremarkable paramecia that Luffy made work through innovation and experimentation.
The right word isn't nepotism.

Of course I'm using a real world understanding, because nepotism is a real world thing. If you want to say lineage, use a better fitting term like gene merchant or something...
Lol ew who says that

The point is just getting the idea. It doesn't take a lot of brainpower at all to understand the word "nepotism" is clearly referencing the benefits received from a particular lineage or paternity.

I'll go a step above that, He's a better pirate than Roger even though he appeared in only two chapters so far, he's so much cooler.
Roger was cool until Oda wanted to make Oden the coolest character of OP and failed miserably making other cool characters look like shit during Oden's flashback like Kaido, WB or Roger himself. Even Rayleigh got some shades.

Fucking Oden ruined Wano and most of the characters he got involved with.

The hard work theme is still there. We've seen it with Koby but people don't care about Koby so...

The only hardcore nepo babies I can think of in this series are Luffy and BB. Luffy gets a pass because he actually worked his ass off to get where he is right now (with asspulls from Oda, of course). I guess you can make a case for everyone that has a D. in their name but that's stupid because it doesn't really provide any benefit.

Koby is lopsided and ironically, the other extreme. I mean the two years of training from not being a fighter to where he is now is pretty bad. Like seriously Kuma, you dickhead, Usopp couldn't have gone somewhere and done the same?

Indifferent tbh.

Luffy was always special. Nepotism isn't what killed his character.

Most of the cast were always inherently too strong for the East Blue and there's a reason for that.

It isn't like other shonen where the core of their character is "hard work > talent" which turns into shit when nepotism comes into play later. A good example of this is Naruto.

Luffy or one piece isn't ruined due to this.

Bingo.

Disregarding everything else, a big major part is the prophecy bs.

"Freedom" is a core theme for one piece, and for luffy himself.

Luffy is choosen by the fruit. Everything is already pre determined for the world and story in a prophecy. They're already locked. There's zero freedom in what they do, it's already written. The future just needs to play out.

Shits on their most major theme. No freedom.
