Oda has love-hate relationship with Sanji
I mean, on one hand, how many SHP got not one, but two sad flashbacks and so much focus?
On another hand, Oda keeps forcing way too many gags at Sanji's expense...

Nah, Sanji is the closest thing Oda has to a self-insert, and Sanji is an extension of that self-deprecating humour.

The suit means he’s ready for a new job, which is why he easily left the crew.

I like how smart his character design is. Very well thought out but mysterious.

Yeah, but for some reason Zoro gets lost once per three Sanji gags.
