Character Discussion Why do you like Kid?

He's one of the few selfmade characters in the story.

No special family tree
No yonko mentors
No god fruit
No legendary weapons
Etc..

He's gotten where he is now through sheer will.

For me personally, I love a character with a strong will. A perfect examples of this, was when hawkins was talking to law about Kid/Killer's fight vs Kaido. At that time anyone from the worst gen meeting kaido was a death mission...we saw what happened when Luffy met Kaido...Hawkins believed Kaido would Kill Kid? Why? Because Kidd's will is too strong for him to give up. Even facing kaido at that time he was willing to fight to the death..and that was pretty much what happened.

If Kaido hadn't spared Kidd's life he would be dead. Even Kaido himself respected Kidd's will.

His unbreakable will, even in impossible odds, is what makes me a big fan.

There are plenty of other reasons, but i don't feel like writing an essay.

Thinking back again with the reveal of Xebec
Kidd look the closest to Xebec, all of their traits and personality are extremely similar even their appearance (he's basically BB face in Kidds body)
Just a massive difference in strength......
We like Xebec due to his chaotic personality and most importantly he got the strength to back up all this

And it's not like Kidd doesn't have that potential,
Got incredible raw physical power and warrior fighting spirit.
He got CoC (supposed to be one of the strongest one via amplified by his top mentality)
His DF isn't a joke either if use it correctly by the author. He tick all the boxes in the requirements to become a high top tier or even peak top tier.
It's only Oda holding back.

And I'm not even a kidd fan, just my unbiased views and inconsistent and poor writing to his potential strength, all the slander and dislikes are mostly due to his mid power (on behalf of Oda) afterall.
Kidd just lack good writing (power wise), if he's powerful, he have more reasons to be loved by the fandom compared to other.
90% of op top tiers are blalant, boring and uninteresting character,
but fans love them because they are STRONG

Myy Conspiracy Theory:
-Kidd was supposed to be the Supernova that will survive and is supposed to be a D.
-Law was meant to be eliminated but grew in popularity after Punk Hazard
-Oda and his team swapped Law's and Kidd's role, making law a D instead of Kidd, also making Shanks eliminate Kidd Pirates instead of Heart Pirates

Two major issues with this:

1.Law saved Luffy during marineford which meant he was going to be a D since pretimeskip.

2.Law was already top 10 in the polls since his introduction in Saboady, in like a few pages he already cracked the top 10. Punk Hazard isn't what changed his trajectory.

because who he is based on by two real life figures. I also like despite all of the hardships he has been going through he still has the willpower to keep going after the betrayal, crushing defeats by emperors, and even getting tortured he still went out of his way to fight kaido.

Yea he would really excel well in a structured training set-up. He has lots of grit and guts but not much of talent. Having somone like Garp train him the way he did with Koby would transform him into a monster

He’s a true pirate, doesn’t take shortcuts, earns everything he has, grey character, Luffy if he was morally grey and wasn’t as blessed, shares characteristics with Shanks, he’s a character of perseverance, no excuses, no half measures, went into the new world fearless and just challenged yonko crews directly met with success and failures but this is how he learns and grows, made a name for himself through defeating a yonko in a tag team while dealing the winning blow and earned himself a 3 billion bounty. He’s a true underdog in this story (and community 💀), a real go getter, and has accomplished more than most pirates can say for themselves, I can see potential in his character development and growth in the future as much as he’s out of the One Piece race, he’ll be a valuable asset in the war to come and he’ll be a big name pirate by the epilogue for sure.

Power and strength matters and that is where kidd is lacking comparatively. Also oda does kidd dirty. Look at how he handled law against BB compared to kidd against shanks.

1. Jinbe and Mr. 2 also saved Luffy, as did many others during the Marineford War. They did not have to be a D. Since Punk Hazard and Dressrosa were the first arcs after the timeskip to add a Supernova storyline, it made sense for Law to get a unique setup beforehand, especially as he was the only one among them with a central role in that early stretch.

2. It was still after the introduction. It is entirely plausible that Kidd was originally meant to be the one who is a D, since he fit better with the established patterns of D characters.
