Don't know if this has been discussed but something interesting Oda's been doing is that he's been adding details for certain characters in the FB and we can prolly use that to identify which characters would be important or play some major role in this flashback:
Some examples so far have been:
Edward Newgate -> Later known as "Whitebeard"
Ouchoku -> Later known as the "Admiral of Pirate Island"
and so on...
Some other characters that have gotten this are:
Rocks, Roger, Garp, Shiki, Bigmom, Kyou, Kaido, Streusen etc.
Some characters like Barbell have a bit more info but it's stuff like "Cat Fishman" lol
John unfortunately doesn't have any, same with the Elephant (Alaadin looking dude)

Kaido legit dreams of Oden killing him and put Oden along with the greats buy sure kaido is super duper stronger than Oden 
It’s almost as if characters like Kaido aren’t the narrator and aren’t fully consistent funny how that works
Except we literally saw Garp vs kuzan in the manga and character reflecting on a fight that happened is completely different to a character stating they will achieve a dream.

Tysm man. Exactly! I'm so glad someone can actually understand and empathically explain this too! The metronome analogy is great and one piece is definitely a skim walker now too.
It's even worse when you find out how much Oda "plagiarised" the story from other niche series too. But also how much more cliché, tropey, formulaic etc the story has become.
I used to be excited for the new world. we had far better exploration and adventure pre TS. Now navigation is barely relevant along with the SHs dreams. Sanjis 2 year training was mostly a gag and the start of YEARS of relentless Sanji humiliation and slander with the Okamas being irrelevant to Sanjis fighting style and powerups too.
Fuck man. I may actually do a brief one piece rewrite after all and try to recapture some of the lost magic, wonder, charm, humour, spirit, boldness etc of pre ts.
Naruto got much worse post timeskip too. this feels like deja vu. the Akatsuki hard carried whilst they lasted.

Legit thought Roger/Garp hitting each other would shatter mountains and it couldn't even destroy a fodder marine ship near it lmfao
