Alright I will not troll even slightly in this post.
When Roger learns that a Marine ship is coming, he is objectively terrified:
He doesn’t know that this is Garp yet, as we see here:
“Roger, isn’t that Garp’s ship?!”
Roger: “What did you just say?!!” <—Roger outright admitting that he didn’t know what Marine ship was approaching when his first instinct was to flee in terror
Roger: “Alright men! New plan!” <—Roger only decides not to flee in terror when he learns that his opponent is Garp
And then we witness one of the saddest top tier Haki exchanges in the manga:
But more importantly:
The fucking Haki beams are the exact. Same.
Is anyone still in denial that Kuzan possesses AdCoC at this point? Literally his Haki was already indistinguishable from Saint Shanks’s Haki:
And now his Haki is indistinguishable from Roger’s as well?
The only thing you can really say about Roger and Garp is that they used no touch Haki (which is not conqueror’s Haki but armament)
Other than this, they are literally exactly the same, except Garp and Kuzan’s Haki was so powerful that it ripped surrounding buildings from the ground and sent them flying, while Roger and Garp’s Haki did absolutely no environmental damage.
So anyway yeah. Roger is just a run of the mill top tier, he is rivals and/or equals with literally every top tier of his era and absolutely does not have standout strength portrayal in the slightest. Whitebeard, Shiki, Rayleigh, Gaban, Garp, Sengoku, and now Silver Axe were said to rival each other in power at numerous points through this manga’s history. Roger is absolutely not special at all.
