Questions & Mysteries Do the marines have other admiral candidates

#3
I know this definitely won't be relevant in the actual story, but they found replacements for aokiji and Akainu in a draft, do you think there are multiple replacements for admirals that the mairines just have at their disposal?
If they had It, they wouldn't have made them Admirals. And anyway, they would have been VA then.

But the reason It was simply that Oda hadn't created two "worthy" VAs before the TS. So, he had to create two out of the blue and the world draft was the excuse.

I remember when back in the day people theorized maybe Onigumo as the new Admiral lol.

The world draft better be a mini arc, like an hour long episode or something, could be like the hunter exams which would be sick

Let's hope.

In theory we have Zodiacs and some 1/2B VA too.
A VA worth 2 fucking billions should be very strong. In theory.
It's interesting how Admirals and VAs are so far apart in power, even compared to Yonko and their commanders.

Personally I wonder if this has anything to do with Rocks killing Scissors in MJ. Considering how bad it must have looked for the WG that an Admiral was killed they may have bumped up the individual strength standard.

Summary of my post:

The Marines in One Piece are viewed as having significantly declined since the time skip, becoming incompetent and weak compared to their portrayal during the Marineford arc.

The critique includes several points:

The Marines have a clear lack of internal Admiral candidates, which is shown by the fact that two new Admirals, Green Bull and Fujitora, had to be recruited from outside the organization, while two fan-made admiral candidates, Chaton and Momousagi, were not promoted.

Most Vice Admirals are considered "fodder," with the notable exceptions of Garp and Koby, whose rapid growth from Garp's training is praised.

Key characters like Smoker, Tashigi, and Drake are criticized for being poorly handled post-time skip.

Akainu is viewed as an ineffective Fleet Admiral, despite his power, for failing to stop opponents like a dying Kuma and the Blackbeard Pirates.

It's argued that non-canon content, such as the TV special featuring the Vice Admiral Komei, portrayed the Marines far more competently than the main storyline.

Big rant lol:

I massively doubt it since they had to recruit Green Bull and Fujitora from random parts of the world. Oda even took 2 fanmade Admirals and made them canon and VAs have been absolutely fodder, including the New World VAs at Egghead.

The Marines have been extremely disappointing post TS, when they were unstoppable pre TS. The only hope I have now is that a current day Admiral hasn't been truly put down for a good and especially killed nor shown awakening but asie from that, the Marines are jokes.

Garp was impressive at Beehive, I'll mention that though and Koby's growth has been absolutely ridiculous and thus his strength, but not entirely implausible due to Garp training him for 2 years and some months.

The 3 Admiral limit is so stupid, especially when they are reluctant to deploy Admirals due to the risk of "spreading their power out too much" or whatever, so why not have more Admirals, especially when there are 4 Emperors to worry about for example? Never mind anyone who is Yonko tier but not a Yonko too or even above Yonko tier?

After Marineford incident and Akainu as Fleet Admiral, you would expect a HUGE improvement in the Marines and thus massive power boosts, much greater numbers, more much more competence and such, much more direct action and brutality but here we have Marines unable to act against Yonkos without permission and Sword accomplishing more than what the Marines do.

Don't even get me started on how Oda ruined Smoker, Tashigi and Drake.

If there any Admiral candidates in the Marines, it would cause so many plot holes. But its ridiculous that there aren't any either. A Schrodingers Admiral situation.

Adventures in Nebulandia or w/e, that TV special movie OVA whatever, that centered around Foxy and that strange island and this new amazing Vice Admiral was fucking peak tbh. This dude was able to use COA to reform his weapon entirely, something we've never seen before and still haven't yet in canon:

https://onepiece.fandom.com/wiki/Komei#Haki

As a Vice Admiral, Komei can use Armament Haki which he uses to change the shape of his fan. It can also change size, length and shape at Komei's command, such as a giant fan and a sword blade. In its sword form, he is able to use flying slash attacks and crack the ground, and absorb and redirect electrical attacks. Komei takes advantage of its long size and reach to attack enemies from far away. He is also one of handful of characters shown to be able to harden his entire body with Haki.[1]

Film Z was much better for the Marines than the fucking canon story too, sigh. Zephyr deserved better.

But yeah Komei was a great character and vice admiral:

Intelligence

Known as the "Genius Tactician", Komei is a gifted strategist who has taken down powerful pirates using wisdom and ingenuity alone. He is also incredibly analytical, having in-depth knowledge of each member of the Straw Hat crew and their respective personalities, to which he uses to plot against each of them with their weaknesses. Komei's maneuvers mostly utilize environmental hazards such as the Drowsy Mushroom from Kinoko Island to incapacitate Zoro and Sanji, and the sea water mist surrounding Nebulandia to weaken Devil Fruit users. He created a multi-layered plan to infiltrate the Foxy Pirates in order to take down the Straw Hats, and had nearly succeeded in his mission if not for intervention from Brook and Chopper, and a lucky trinket which spared Luffy from death.

He was directly based on Zhuge Liang "Kong-ming" (Yes that one from that anime and Dynasty Warriors and such too) and thus has such a great legacy draw from. Why can't all VAs be like him?

Inspirations and Influences

He is an obvious parody of the legendary Chinese strategist Zhuge Liang (諸葛 亮?), better known by his courtesy name Kong-ming (孔明?) in popular culture. Kōmei is the standard Japanese reading of this name, widely used by many anime, manga and games evoking the historical figure and/or his fictionalization in Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Koby is unironically much better than all the VAs except Garp ofc.

I remember when we got to Marineford and the VAs were nothing more than fodder, same with the giant Marines, sigh.

Momonga was impressive and should have been sent to capture Boa due to his previous experience and knowledge vs her and thus being able to resist her petrification powers but that would require actual intelligence and competency. They sent complete fodder to Mihawk, and the strongest Marine they sent to Boa was Koby....They may as well have just killed their own Marines as Akainu did.

Fuck man, I used to have such high hopes for the Marines but after the absolute disgrace that Film Red/End of Wano and Egghead were for the Marines (except Kizaru I guess somewhat) and generally post TS for the Marines, I've given up. Akainu has given these big, bold intimidating speeches and yet done nothing except fail to stop a dying, greviously injured Kuma escaping him. The fucking Fleet Admiral btw. He also let teh BBP escape when they were much weaker than they are now, when he was happy to take on all of WBs commanders and allies more or less, including Marco and Vista too and come out unscathed pretty much, despite them knowing and using Haki too.

Sorry I Just needed to rant about how much Oda has wasted the Marines.
