Have you heard of Ne Zha animated films ? If not, let me tell you about them.
As I've been saying, studios and people other than Disney have made the animation genre much more interesting.
This one is from China. Adapts a story from Chinese mythology. The first one was released in 2019, but I only discovered them this year, now that the second one came out and is a huge success.
I watched the second one days ago on the RidoMovies website, because it had English subtitles, but the first one didn't.
It's phenomenal. It has the universe and story of that fictional version of China, which is a fantasy world full of magic, gods, mythical beings and the like, has an cool cast of quirky characters, makes great use of the concepts of magic and mythology, and has epic fights and battles unprecedented in the history of animation.
The internet is saying that Ne Zha is a great way to call out how US hegemony is harming the world, not only in terms of political and military power, but also in industries like entertainment. The US's dominance in the entertainment industry is particularly bad because it internalized horrible stereotypes about everything in life around the world. Ne Zha shows how people and places around the world, by making their diversity known, important and powerful, can make our lives much better.
