Controversial Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Megathread

Kids? Movie is tagged 17+ at US. 18+ at Brazil. 16+ at most countries.

My biggest issue was the cringe fanbase laughing the entire movie. Like even at parts that's wasn't suppose to laugh. And Tanjiro funny run at beginning made me feel like I was in a fucking stand up comedy show and was the only not enjoying it.

Lots of weebs are cringe normies. Saw the movie in theatre too, lots of howling and laughing

On topic though. Great movie. Animation was clean, and Akaza was GOATed. Wasn't some scam like the earlier movie.

I went to see the movie in theaters about two weeks ago. As it was a Monday, I kind of expected the theater to be pretty quiet, and it was for the most part, albeit a couple of people were scattered in difference seats here and there.

Looking back, though, I think I should’ve gone on opening night instead. Every very seat in the theater would’ve been packed that Friday night, and the hype in the room would’ve been through the stratosphere.

Anime in the big screens is here to stay, rightfully so.

What you mean by that? Because anime in the big screens are a thing for so long. That Chihiro movie was the first I can remember that made a huge success and it was so long ago.

Unless you mean like cannon manga chapters turning into movies instead of simply TV episodes.

If I'm correct DBS was also the first one to have people going to movies and even stadiums? To watch the cannon episodes.

watching the film 5 years after reading the manga only reminded me how depressingly miserable Shinobu's fight against Douma was, although the film made Shinobu's moves look a bit more flashy. Looking back, as soon as she entered the room, she sadly had no chance to beat him which piled on with the fact that she had been planning for years to avenge Kanae's death only for her to die within minutes in real time without being able to do any meaningful damage and without being able to see out his death while alive.

During the manga chapters 5 yrs ago, I legit was tearing up reading about her death but watching it yesterday, I just felt exasperated lol.

At least Yamato and Yor (both also voiced by Saori Hayami) are still alive and kicking? 😅

Also Akaza's backstory in the manga didn't move me that much but seeing it animated actually made me tear up a bit, also thanks to Katsura lol

also this is the 1st time i have been to a movie theater in 20 yrs after my local movie theater 10 min away from my home closed down in 2004-2005 (closest one near me now is 55 min). my new work place has a movie theater 10 min away (walking) that I can now go to reliably

Just saw the movie. Bro I swear kids are goofy as hell lol. How many people did Akaza kill? 6 Seveeeeeehhhhh

No Spoilers Ahead:

I think this was a smart move by Ufotable. It really did cover a lot in its 2 and a half hour run. mmm
Part 1 I only teared up for Akaza's backstory right before he got turned into a demon
Part 2 and 3 are going to mess me up for sure though lol

fortunately my movie theater was mostly silent outside a few gasps at Shinobu's death

in the US, it's almost impossible to get anime films in actual theaters (especially subbed) outside of Dragon Ball to get queued / added over other mostly live action American films that are currently playing.

One Piece has only been able to get Stampede and Red in the past but this year Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle Part 1(thanks to Mugen Castle) and Chainsaw Man Reze is coming in the next week or so. The only anime films to my knowledge that has actually been able to break into most physical US theaters (despite increased media exposure of anime in the US, it is still considered taboo at times with Gen X and prior, especially discussed in-person)

You mean Spirited Away? That movie was a huge hit when it came out in theatres years ago, although it was mainly aimed at kids and worked well as a standalone film; not something based on an existing mainstream series.

Demon Slayer is a bit different (even compared to DBS: Broly) because it wasn’t just a one-off movie primarily aimed toward kids; it built directly on the existing anime and continued the main story. It completely shattered box office records in a way that was almost unheard of for an animated film.

Over $640 million worldwide and counting 👊

From start to finish, you are glued to your seat throughout the entirety of the film, and it never gives you the chance to let go.

10/10 film

and this is just for Part 1

Part 2 and 3 has wayyyy more at stake, anime onlys will explode lol

Anime only?

Everyone who even remotely pays attention to Demon Slayer will explode since, for once, the adaptation is >>> the source material, which almost never happens nowadays.
a lot of discourse for kimetsu no yaiba online (especially anime onlys) is how weak and incompetent Shinobu was, which I do not really agree with.

As someone that read the manga weekly 6 yrs ago in real time as infinity castle played out, it was depressing as hell to see Shinobu get wrapped up in 2 chapters to Douma (I even cried when I read it) who she dedicated her remaining life to personally kill after losing Kanae but the remaining chapters and how it plays out (especially for what is to come in Part 2) actually showcases Shinobu's long term plans paying off big time and how crucial her scheming is by the end for everyone else.

For the record, I am still upset about how Shinobu went out and that she did not get to see Douma perish while alive, but in the grand scheme of things, she just happened to be the first to die in Infinity Castle (many others like Muichiro, Genya, Iguro, Kanroji, Himejima have much more miserable sad deaths). Anime Onlys have no idea of what's to come based on how they interpreted Part 1
