It's expectations that any swordsman in the show will be stronger than Mihawk/Zoro what ruined the fun for people.
Wait until people realize that it doesnt apply just to swordsmen, that will be the peak of desperation.

Unlike vague “emperor” and “worlds strongest creature” titles. WSS clearly sets a ceiling on any unfortunate soul who wields a blade, killing agendas like no other

The fights in GV FB has been mid. Even the combined attack of all 6 legends looked mid. Compare that to how good hakai looked. King vs Zoro also had decent choreography.

haki is the problem not swords

Fights qere absolutely at their best when it was BATTLE IQ, CREATIVITY, and HAX. Luffys fights until the ts were excellent.

Most of them came with creative abilities though.
Mr.1 was an iron - man that could transform his limbs into swords and other stuff, Ohm's sword came with special properties, which allowed him to re-shape it and Kaku was using his Devil Fruit in conjuction with Rokushuki and his sword skills...

You can just do so much with one weapon, it's just a limiter in terms of creativity when it comes to drawing fights, hence Xebec, Roger, Shanks, Harald and to an extend Zoro all have similar stances and we've been getting the same or similar panels of them fighting...

Haki as you mentioned made things worse, because it takes away the necessity to come up with creative ways of how to deal with opponent x or ability y - It's just all about who get's hit first now and has the greater haki mastery and while everyone at the highest level is suffering from it, swordsmen by virtue of being the least creative and most one dimensional class of fighters, suffer the most from it imo.

The Zoro wankers won't admit it but it's the truth. Swordsmen in OP are extremely uncreative and sword fights are trash. Yes, this includes Zoro's fights which have been putrid for a long time now too.

They're boring and none of them are interesting.

Oda has zero creativity which is why every character is given a fucking sword now.

Even Goofy vs Crydo was a better fight than any sword duel.

Swordsmen in OP are all trash and so are their fights. Definitely a big part in OP fight quality dropping from garbage to garbag-er.

Law is the only swordsman that's fun to watch fighting.

Hakimen like zoro, shanks and mihawk are very boring.

Most common media swordfights Oda watched as a kid were classic samurai clashes. If you seek good choreography check Vagabond or Mugen no Juunin

99% of Swordsmen in Present Story have Sword-Styles that are based on Powers other than Haki,
Only Zoro & Shanks rely mainly on Haki, and Zoro's Style is Extremely Detailed & Varied,
While Shanks is a Fan Favorite,

You're not bothered by Swordsmen,
You're bothered with Reveal that Old Era Legends (Xebec, Roger, Rayleigh, Harald, Oden) are also Swordsmen.
They are just Flashback Characters, most of them are Dead & not Part of Present Story,

Imagine hating a character so much that you start hating all swordsman.

Reading OP for the fights? Seems you’re a newbie. In any case, the anime's been showcasing swordsmen epicly lately and Oda’s leaving plenty of room for animators with his dull one-clash panels.

It's just not the kind of manga One Piece is, same as with the author.

Most of the fights are focused on thematic symbolism and emotional weight than the technical and mechanical aspects of fights, especially the flash backs that Oda doesn't want to ever flesh out.

I feel inclined to agree. Swordsmanship in OP is the most Unga Bunga type imaginable.
I tend to dislike that Zoro is all about being the best swordsman when it feels like 99% isnt even swordsmanship but just pure muscle.
Its not how well you strike but how hard.
We had Mihawk vs Zoro and real swordsmanship was displaying how someone with a small knife can defeat someone with 3 swords solely cause skill and perception, not just force behind the strike.

People will hate me for what I will say next but the series should have more unique swords or more variety. Not just Haki or DFs behind it.
I remember seeing a video where some Katana master was trying to learn and understand a Broadsword and nerded out over the Pummel.
We need legit swordmasters. Not just SWORDS.
Give me Zoro vs a master of a Zweihänder and how Zoro needs to learn how to adapt to fighting such a beast of a sword and its reach for example.

Not just progressing from "I CANT CUT STEEL" to trying to make a exciting fight over needing to cut Pica.


Look at the creativity behind some DF fights. Swordsmanship in comparison is just "ME CUT YOU STRONG. YOU DIE. UGA BUGA".

I'm referring ofc to DF weaponry.

This concept has a lot of potential and we really should have seen more fighters using it for versatility. You get a weapon plus the power of a DF, and it allows you to swim while not using the DF as a crutch.

Plus it could make fights tons more interesting IMO. And it could be used on not just swords but also guns, clothing etc.

yes , roger and shanks are extremely important characters and basically pushed the plot of this story

devil fruits can actually be really creative but oda cant write that good , the best we got is law and even his powers are meh
read other mangas and see how good swordsmanship with special abilities can be - kagurabachi being the most recent example

Zoro vs Kaku or mr1 were pretty good. I think the issue comes when both fighters only use swordsmanship and no other abilities like DF or rokushi techniques.

But Zoro vs Ryuma wasn’t half bad.

like the fact that Oda was able to visually display a difference between Zoro and Ryuma’s fighting styles is a feat on its own.

compare this to Zoro vs killer or Zoro vs king where you can’t really tell anything interesting about how they both fight. They just do generic slashes and blocks and counters
