My guess is also Shanks originally wanted to keep his possibilities open wrt the contract and only decided after he met Luffy that he would put his faith in him. It‘s actually a great deal of faith given he sacrificed his own future for this.

though am curious why imu triggered it, since he wanted harald to form a pact, but here imu breaks his deal.

I think Harald could have just been testing his immortality in that scene, as opposed to genuinely trying to off himself

I think there’s probably going to be some sort of lore drop that will convince Harald to betray Imu, then we will actually get the fight.
