Rather than hate I’d almost say he puts them on a pedestal and has them die as a symbol of ultimate love often. Like when they die it’s either to protect/affirm love for their kids or at least they act brave during illnesses as acts of love to children

the thing with estrid where the narrator said the saddest creatures are those whose mothers embrace them, specifically, kinda made me realize this. He usually has mothers only abandon children through death or tears, and if they do it for other reasons like estrid or big mom they’re comically evil besides. Meanwhile dudes dreams are more important than anything else and mothers are like paragons of love for others, especially the self sacrificial kind of love.

He's been doing that trope since Arlong Park, though, that's the thing.
And paired with all the other numerous ways he shits on his female characters, honestly, I just can't believe he doesn't have some type of vendetta against them.

Oh yeah id still say its definitely a kind of sexism and some preconcieved notions/expectations of women and mothers

Mothers are the antithesis to adventure he said, so for the heroes to start their adventure their mother has to die.
