What did Vergo actually achieve in terms of feats? He fought three individuals of note Sanji, Smoker and Law, so let's talk about them in order.
Sanji was nerfed by the fact Nami got blown up POINT BLANK by Caesar using a technique Luffy considered painful and dangerous.
If you consider the fact Nami hadn't been able to minimise the damage with Haki, it's all the more embarrassing Sanji blitzed Vergo in a diminished state while literally announcing himself.
Not only did he get blitzed, he failed to take advantage of the injury he gave Sanji, which didn't even stop him from kicking with it, which also reflected poorly on Vergo. So much for that killer instinct.
Versus Smoker, Vergo was simply the superior fighter and won, fair enough, but the dumbass got jacked for the one thing keeping him alive - Law's heart. Where was his awareness? He was yapping about Haki too. Perhaps Vergo treated Observation training like leg day?
And in the case of Law, what did Vergo do to prove his mettle? He beat up on Law when he was compromised by his heart, but what about after that?
