I do think that Whitebeard gave up way too quick on Rocks, wasn't he his most loyal crew member?.. And other than that, Whitebeard was pissed.. Marco's dad was a random insert, he's a fan apparently, i don't know..
One thing though Rocks only started to go all out against Roger and Garp, he didn't hardened his Blade against Whitebeard..
They don't need to always cut, but they need to most of the time..
I mean piercing or thrusting with a pointy sword is cutting..

Swords were created to Kill not to Cut, and even incapacitate their opponents without even cutting, thrusting or even any of that. We literally see this type of shi, on any other Anime/Fictions work too. If u want One piece, Kozaburo literally told Zoro that Swords / Katana purpose is for "Kill", He never said to Cut. U literally can Kill your opponents with even Thrusting not just cutting them.
And literally what Roger did was part of his own Swordmanship.

Newgate and Garp got far stronger than him, characters like Herald, Loki, Mihawk, Shanks, Akainu, Kaidou, etc all should narratively be far above Roger's strength level
what point that Roger's legend far surpasses anyone in modern history of the verse?

A fictional world is going to alter to a degree the meaning of some given thing or concept.. Flying slashes are a fictitious element, but the core idea of cutting isn't lost.. What makes blunt Shockwaves Swordsmanship, or using your Blade as a magic Wand like Fujitora.. Where is the line when it stops being Swordsmanship.. The motion alone of swinging a Blade is Swordsmanship?..
Putting your leg on fire and kicking with it, still involves kicking.. If Sanji starts to doing fire Ball shockwaves like Marco on Queen, i will call it out.. But i don't think Sanji has ever claimed to be practicing a only kicked based martial art..
That's nothing compared to people claiming that someone's whose CoC is not their specialty, is not aware of his CoC, nor how to Control CoC, is somehow able to use AdCoC.. Completely delusional..
