One Piece is worse.

In large part because it HAD everything it needed before Oda went off the rails with Haki.

Not only does Haki overshadow DF, Conqueror's Haki overshadows all other forms of Haki, most of all Armament.

Dragon Ball and One Piece are good case examples of less = more.

I’d hardly call Ki a power system tbh

I mean it is one but it doesn’t really feel like one ig? It’s just pure energy

It doesn’t get more complicated than that, really. Well it can be more complex than that but it usually isn’t

It's a power system, just an exceedingly simple one.

It gets more complicated with transformations, which DB is big on.

Just wait for the third power system Oda will introduce, called Big Daddy Saran Cells. Whoever has more BDS Cells will make them 100x stronger than Imu.

Dragon Ball's Ki is basic but intuitive and simple to understand.
Haki should be simple on paper yet Oda managed to make it confusing somehow. You know it's bad when people start SFX scaling or making essays sabout the lenght, flow and thickness of sparks to try to understand what power was used or to argue X character was nerfed/holding back despite it making no sense in-story. It's not enjoyable nor fun to debate.

When devil fruits were the focus, One Piece power system was more interesting though, due to the sheer variety of abilities.

Can’t comment on One Piece, but Dragon Ball’s has been fucked up since Super

Super Saiyan God becoming worthless after one arc

Toriyama saying SS2 and SS3 are redundant and that base Super Saiyan could always be as strong as either with enough mastering, despite Mastered Super Saiyan already being a thing as far back as Cell Saga

Nevermind he and Toyo seemed to have retracted this with both forms still seeing their uses as power ups. But regardless of what they’re current standing is, it sucks how worthless and underutilized both have become.

God Ki itself being dogshit that everyone else either matches on their own or quickly matched with just basic training

Poor explanation between Saiyan Beyond God and Super Saiyan God, and going into base Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan Blue for that matter

Rampant powercreep with Super Saiyan Blue being worthless for some time now and even Ultra Instinct looking weak these days

“True Ultra Instinct” in the Granolah arc making zero fucking sense, just feeling like another asspull, and reducing Ultra Instinct to another genetic transformation. Thankfully seems to be forgotten now.

Daima introducing Super Saiyan 4 purely for the sake of GT nostalgia while throwing a massive wrench in consistency as it’s never even mentioned in any installment taking place after Daima with SS3 still being the strongest form Goku knows at the start of Super

Nevermind it’s just another power up, forgetting how in GT, it’s a distinct form combining both Super Saiyan and Great Ape to explain the ape-like form vs Daima where it just looks like that for whatever reason.

I’ll never hate on Toriyama for the wonderful expansion of the Dragon Ball franchise he was committed to creating right up until his passing, with Daima in particular being an amazing work that felt like a love letter to the fans, but the old man and Toyo definitely could have planned things better with introducing new forms and power systems better than they were handled
