Man I really need a light-hearted open world action RPG. Been getting bored wwith games lately
Crimson Desert and the new Fable look promising
Can't get into Where Winds Meets for some reason tho, the UI looks overwhelming for me
The "Greek Fable": Immortals Fenyx Rising
If you want something that feels like Breath of the Wild meets Fable, this is it.
The Vibe: It doesn't take itself seriously at all. The entire game is narrated by Zeus and Prometheus bickering like an old married couple, cracking jokes about Greek mythology.
The Gameplay: Very solid action combat (dodges, parries, godly powers), manageable open-world puzzles, and free-form exploration.
Why it fits: It’s colorful, funny, and "gamey" in a good way. The UI is standard Ubisoft but much cleaner than the Asian RPGs you mentioned. It’s often on deep sale.
2. The "Action Combat" King: Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning
This is widely considered the closest combat feel to a single-player MMO without the junk.
The Vibe: High fantasy, but bright and colorful (art style by the creator of Spawn). It feels very "2012" in a cozy, nostalgic way.
The Gameplay: The combat is incredibly fluid action. You can mix magic, giant hammers, and faeblades seamlessly. It makes you feel powerful immediately without needing 20 hours of grinding.
Why it fits: The UI is old-school and simple (health bar, mana bar, mini-map). No flashing daily login bonuses or cluttered HUDs.
3. The "Palate Cleanser": Cat Quest III (or II)
Don't let the cute art fool you; this is a genuinely great, streamlined Action RPG.
The Vibe: Pure puns and pirate adventure (in the 3rd one). It is vibrant, happy, and designed to be fun from minute one.
The Gameplay: You sail a ship, explore islands, and fight in real-time. It strips away all the "fat" of modern RPGs—inventory management is instant, quests are fast, and combat is snappy.
Why it fits: If you are "bored with games lately," this is the cure. It’s short (10-15 hours), focused, and respects your intelligence without overwhelming you with systems.
4. The "Studio Ghibli" RPG: Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom
Unlike the first game (which was turn-based/Pokemon-style), this one is a full Action RPG.
The Vibe: Literally looks like a playable Studio Ghibli movie. Very wholesome story about a boy king building a kingdom where everyone can be happy.
The Gameplay: Fast hack-and-slash combat. You also have a light "kingdom builder" mode where you recruit citizens to your town, which is satisfying without being stressful.
Why it fits: It is impossible to be in a bad mood while playing this. The UI is stylish and clean JRPG standard.
A Reality Check on Your Waitlist
You mentioned Crimson Desert and Fable. You will need a game to bridge the gap because they are further out than you might hope:
Crimson Desert: Officially slated for Spring 2026 (likely March).
Fable: Targeted for Late 2026.
My Recommendation:
Start with Immortals Fenyx Rising. It hits that Fable itch of "British humor + Fantasy Action" better than anything else out there right now.
I can vouch for Amalur being great for escapist, power fantasy fun. Very DMC-lite meets Skyrim. You can do some extremely badass stuff in my, great weapons, amazing melee combat but very casual too. Chill and badass game.
