Birdcage is impressive and speaks to his insane versatility and mastery of his fruit, which is definitely way more then we see from most characters, but it doesn´t really have much to do with a 1v1 fight, his strings just lack power and toughness, which is how he ended up losing to Luffy at that point.

As impressive as he was, we do have a clear upgrade in Katakuri, an awakened Paramecia COC user with a cult of personality, and love of his family. The only difference is that Katakuri has advanced Haki, and was an actual ceiling for Luffy to surpass.

Tbh I think Oda definitely didn't intend for him to be above Commanders given the fact that he made Law and Luffy get a combined bounty of 1B after defeating him, and then immediately put a lot of emphasis on how people with a bounty of 1B and above are the real deal. I typically don't bounty scale, but I just can't help but think that was his way of saying that Doffy was hard capped below fighters like Katakuri or King.

Luffy defeated Kaido. His bounty should be bigger than his.

While Law and Kidd beated Big Mom, they should get 2 billion, not 3 billion...

This destroys that Law and Luffy got the half of Doflamingo's bounty (which canonically was like 340), as their bounty never was about defeating Big Mom or Kaido, but about their feats as leaders.

Luffy's bounty before Doflamingo was 400 million, it is super stupid to asume that 2 years later, 3 basic haki's mastered, new gear is just worth a 100 million to his threat.


Law's bounty was even higher than Luffy's lol, and he also had a small increase.

Pica's bounty was 100 million, while Zoro got 320 lol, and he had help 🤣🤣.

People will ignore context because they are stupid.

Heck, people literally are forgetting they are Walords, part of the 3 great powers together with the yonko and admirals.

Doffy nerfed himself by doing Torikago. It was necessary for him to avoid filtrations but at the same time I think it was detrimental to his depiction. Torikago is a feat at the level if not superior to Kaido moving Onigashima, I wouldn't be surprised if Doffy returns to the story as a YC1+ character

IMO powerwise it didnt nerf him, maybe just his concentration as it was mentioned, its something conscious he had to keep and all his parasite all over the country. Needs a lot of concentration.
