People are using that magazine’s claim that it was Shanks as proof that Oda retconned it at the last minute.

But that magazine was never canon and shouldn’t be taken seriously in the first place. It has posted plenty of incorrect information before, yet people still treat it like an official source. Anything it says whether about power scaling, new details, or story information shouldn’t be considered canon.

The only source outside of the manga that should be treated as canon is the Vivre Cards.

For example, the Vivre Card has clarified details that weren’t mentioned in the manga.
It was revealed in the Vivre Card not in the manga, by the way that Katakuri ate the Mochi Mochi no Mi 43 years ago.

Before: “Let’s have Katakuri eat it.”
After: “Let’s have Perospero eat it.”

So yh vivre card is the only canon source outside from the manga

Any Idea can change, They just vary in how difficult it is to change them,
It could be an Idea in Oda's Mind, it could be written in his Notebook, it could be something He told Anime Staff, it could be something He approved in Magazine, maybe He wrote it in SBS, maybe He provided it for Databooks or Viver Cards or Video Games, it could also be part of a Message for his Readers or He said it in an Interview, and it can even make it to Chapters in Shonen Jump & Online Reading ... etc

But at the end of the day, They are all Ideas that Oda still have opportunity to change or modify them before it's too late, which is Volume Release, so only Info I consider 100% Canon are Chapters read from Official Raw Manga Volume, everything else is "Canon until Oda changes his mind".
