You're thinking of Tolkien's works. The Hobbit was published in 1937 and the Lord of the Rings books in 1954 and 1955.

ASOIAF was published in 1996.

I stopped caring about A song of ice and fire. It's been so long I would need to reread all the books if a new book ever came out.

HxH has more mysteries going on imo. would be a shame if it was never completed tbh.
