The forced Nika stuff ruined it to be honest
Like this shit lol

however I’m Glad Oda isn’t going that route and is having Loki be his own being and a war god representation in the new gen and not some honorable nika glazer (hopefully not yet)

Dragon being the warrior of liberation would make
more sense imo.

Hopefully the manga is getting better next events. I enjoyed the fight of Luffy vs Kaido pre-5 gear. It was serious fight, especially the upper cut Luffy gave Kaido. Since 5-gear appears, things get stupidly non serious. It remind the retarded fight Gohan/GoTrunks has with Majin Buu, it was just retard.

Gear 5 is the worst thing that happened to One Piece.
-It is the epitome of Oda self-indulgence as an author.
-We are not watching how Luffy is becoming the PK anymore, now we are watching how everyone else is failing to become PK. This why since the introduction of G5 the story has 0 tension and the antagonists are not threatening anymore

Been following One Piece since 2013

Gear Fifth is not as much as a problem as the story becoming extremely repetitive, predictable and lack of new exciting interactions/fights + very slow pacing because of Odas health problems and age.

Not blaming him even for a second, but in my opinion One Piece should’ve ended by now, it would’ve been best for everyone including the story itself.
These last 2-3 years did no justice to this amazing series and the moments it brought and sadly, it feels like the franchise has lost its glamour

I have become very uninterested in the weekly manga and basically just read spoilers every now and then to keep up.

Hopefully the final arc delivers what we all once expected of this amazing story and does it justice before laying it to rest.

I remember the spoiler drop for 387 so well that I still get chills. We used to have an actual time frame, like 3am to 5am EST, and I refreshed until they came in. I went out jogging to work off the energy afterwards.

Here we are a few years into Gear 5 and honestly, my only gripe is that Oda has such a small grip on effectively demonstrating the drawbacks and tying them to his overall treatment of Luffy.

Egghead and Elbaph have been solid arcs. So no, it hasn’t ruined the story. I would probably still have preferred if Oda stuck with the original concept of Luffy turning a mid fruit into something formidable, but it is what it is. I don’t think this new concept is inherently bad writing. I will grant that it’s genuinely bad that he only name dropped Nika 20 chapters before the actual reveal.

Pre-TS established Luffy is the descendant of the world’s most dangerous man and Roger’s longtime rival, and possesses the Will of D.

Whether we like it or not, Oda never intended to write Luffy as some average Joe Shmoe going from 0 to 100.
