Oh, same, I also started around 2009 or so. I began reading OP during the hiatus after SHP disbanded, so I have a very distinct pre-TS on binge, post-TS weekly read.
I also remember that first chapters pirate scans quality was so ass!

About the same for me. I binged the OP anime during the summer of 2010, when it was covering the Marineford Arc, and then I switched over to the manga. By the time I caught up, I think it was only about 2-3 weeks before the manga returned with its post-timeskip chapters. It was a really hype time.
