Questions & Mysteries Why Has Oda Been Struggling with Tension and Competent Antagonist?

#1
In Elbaf Arc you have IMU/Gunko here along with 3 Holy Knights (who require Conquerors Haki to be put down) They should’ve been raising all kinds of Hell yet the tension is not there. The Antagonist play a big part in establishing tension in a story.

Egghead you had The Gorosei and Kizaru all present in the arc, yet the Strawhats leave that arc without a without a scratch, or mortal wound? lack of tension again despite all these strong characters here. An Admiral and All of the Gorosei were in that arc, The Gorosei all had Conquerors Haki as well.

The fucking shit for did you include Kizaru who was saving the weakling Goofy and still managed to kill Goofy's ally?

Maybe it's time to wake up and realize that WG are just weak shits instead of relying on your headcanon "OOOH they are wearing capes and have tattoos therefore they are strong!"
Marines (mainly Admirals) have always been the only strong antagonist in this series. That's it.

Simple : One Piece should be fun and for kids.

Oda doesn't even subvert expectations lol. He runs his story and people just make up their own expectations... which usually frustrates them because he doesn't know wtf we collectively expect in regards to this storytelling conformity.

Egghead had such a unique structure, and Elbaf is just as unique while being bigger. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see as a problem here.

Lmao Xebec killed an Admiral as a rookie.

It’s a bit jarring that Gorosei, Cp0 and Kizaru were in an arc and Strawhats left unscathed….. doesn’t that scare you for future arcs? I mean it’s happening again in Elbaf. IMU took over Gunko’s body had 3 other Holy Knights here yet there hasn’t been any consequences. Elbaf still has a chance to fix this but the fact that IMU has to carry is ridiculous.

No, it doesn't. Egghead was a story where the threats were 1. Relentless (Kizaru, seraphim, pacifista, Gorosei, Lucci) and 2. Out to win in spite of the Straw Hats. Y'know, like killing the Vegapunks. The walls were closing in and the crew only got out of it because of a surprise assist from Emeth. Idk what "unscathed" means to that arc because I can't imagine working under the assumption that it was supposed to feature 1v1s or something.

I think being carried by Imu is the whole point of these characters. Imu is the evil inverse of Nika... the one who beat the ancient kingdom.
