It’s not marines and pirates for sure. Knight armors appeared in this flashback and they only appear around nobles (maybe Shikkearu Kingdom was one who got “betrayed”) but I think that’s foreshadowing God’s Knights played a role here.

I think at the very least he's a CD or taken in by them from early age and was in line to become one of the holy knights. Had rivay with Shamrock, trained by Garling and maybe even Gandhi . Either that or he's connected to the Neronas

That image doesn't tell us anything, he could be an illegitimate son of Imu, conceived with one of the thousands of slaves they have at Marijoas. Zoro always fights a lesser version of Luffy's opponents, I'll make two examples. One, Crocodile couldn't be damaged because of his DF power the same way how Daz Bones couldn't be damaged as well. Two, Kaido had a hard skin and was hard to damage, same as king. And if you look at the opponents that both Luffy and Zoro fought, most of them have similar powers with few exceptions.

bro lihawk is such an after thought that hes not going to have any major part to play he'll be cannonfodder just for fanservice and zoros title.
