Zoro has had his eye closed for over 500 chapters. do you think we will ever actually open it at this point? Or is it going to be kept closed? Its never really been talked about and Zoro himself has never said anything about it. If it is some kind of training what is the purpose of it supposed to be at this point? And if it is some kind of Power-Up Zoro is holding back on why? Considering everything he's gone through and let happen it wouldn't make sense for him to still be intentionally limiting himself and letting innocent people die. At this point if Zoro does open his other eye will it feel like Zoro a bad character for it?

I'd say he told Mihawk he met Ryuma while talking about his swords. Mihawk was surprised because Ryuma is a legend and the best swordman in History.
Zoro probably told himself, "If I become the strongest swordman with my 2 eyes, I can’t claim I'm the strongest ever since someone with one eye has that title."
So he cut that eye out so no excuses could be made. Mihawk probably went :
"I must drink my glass of wine and look shocked for the audience while looking at the camera"

establishing the parallels is a real and big enough reason for it tbf, especially in a series like OP that’s huge on parallels
