Conclusion: The earth god actually represents the ancient weapons being used on Pangaea. The serpent of hellfire which helped to shroud the world in death and darkness is metaphorical. Whether it was some kind of God or a Mythic Zoan, what it actually did was cause a Large Igneous Province event to take place and the result was a flood basalt eruption that created a landmass plateau.

A flood basalt eruption can leave a landmass with a reddish hue, although the basalt is usually dark grey or black when it first cools. The red color typically develops over time due to the weathering of iron-rich minerals in the volcanic rock, or it may appear immediately in specific areas where lava has "baked" older soil.

The earth god, imo, does refer to ancient weapons. Specifically pluton. Pluton/Hades in myth is god of the underworld, which of course literally is underground. Thus, he is also the god of the subterrane or "Earth" and all the gold and jewels hidden in the crust belong to him.

Since the Harley's reveal, I have believed the Earth god and his serpent of Hellfire were a fancy way to explain Pluton being used to create the red line and a hint at how it destroys islands: Magma. Akainu's magma beat Ace's fire. They emphasize when King or Kaido's flames are as hot as magma iirc. So imo if we had to decide what hellfire means in this world it would make sense that humans who didn't understand would see this unfathomably hot roiling mass of fire as the fire of hell. You cannot just destroy matter, thats probably true in OP as well, so whatever land Pluton destroyed in the past was used to create the great continent circling the globe.

We recently had it confirmed the red line is known to Elbaf as the blood stained serpent, so the story as i see it is that Pluton can use the same weapon that destroys land to recreate it. Giants are the only race with a long enough cultural memory to vaguely remember that it is artificial. They don't know why, but they know it has to be destroyed. Remember when Buggy was gonna execute luffy and it said legends are stories that happened and were passed down? I'd bet that the giants have a legend of a great serpent that has been warped over time to mean a literal serpent. The truth is their ancestors had a tragic story where they were separated by the creation of the red line, like Laboon and his pod.
