The thing that edges out Grimmjow over Ulqiora for me is just that small detail of those jaw bones on his face.

Really gives him that it factor that makes him stand out and be memorable.

For Dio his design in and of itself may seem kinda boring to some, but coupled with his persona it really is next level. Ofc those that haven't seen him in action only have the image to judge by, I get it.

All designs here are good, maybe not my personal faves, but very good.


I got Frieza edging out Piccolo, mainly due to the variety of his forms nlg.

Bleach does cooler designs for its more important characters but One Piece has greater character design variety which makes it easier to remember side characters, both major and minor.

Just compare Vice Captains to Worst Gen since they are a bit similar in terms of number of characters within a group and both groups have a host of characters with varying levels of importance.

Every Worst Genner is an instantly recognisable presence regardless of whether they are important (Law), irrelevant (Hawkins and Apoo) or flat out a meme (Urouge).

Vice Captains meanwhile are hard to remember for me. I can confidently name you Renji and remember who a couple others belong to Division wise but that's it. If my life depended on naming these blokes, I'd be a dead man, I ain't surviving.

The Visored are even worse. I can only recall Shinji and Hachi. Everyone else is a blur to me. Lol.

So yeah, they have different strengths but I give the character design award to Oda overall between those two because Oda can make me remember minor tertiary side characters that I haven't seen in over a decade while Kubo can't make me remember major secondary side characters I saw only a few months ago.

It's definitely harder to remember stuff when you read something in bulk and there is no discussion about it whatsoever in my opinion.


There's no weekly discourse, you burn through an entire arc in days/a week.

Fat arse Skypiean character with more chins than testicles. Captain of Enel's Holy Guard or something. He is probably like Enel's fifth strongest subordinate after Shuma, Ohm, Gedatsu and Satori. The most remarkable thing about him is that he is Nico Robin's first 1v1 fight and basically only proper 1v1 fight until Black Maria.

If it wasn't for weekly reading no way I'd remember the 17th Nami clone in each arc either.

Yeah, that's fair for you. I just know it isn't the reason why I myself personally don't remember Kubo side characters when I can so readily recall Oda designs for minor tertiary characters that I haven't seen in a decade when I was bulk watching the anime. Hell, I even just remembered a feckin East Blue filler character right now in Eric the Whirlwind. Lmao.
