General & Others What do you want the next One Piece videogame to be?

We're three years removed from One Piece Odyssey which was the last major new game in the series. Pirate Warriors 4 recently got DLC for Egghead but I'm unsure if they'll have enough material to justify whole new game until Elbaf is over.

I just want to gauge what YOU would personally want the next One Piece videogame to be seeing as we're probably going to get a new one announced soon (2027 is the 30th anniversary of the manga). Here are some ideas
- One Piece traditional fighting game
This one has been on lots of people's wishlists ever since Dragon Ball FighterZ. The mobile game, One Piece Ambition, has the right idea in the visual department at least. Just imagine a console version of this with actual 2D fighting game mechanics and boom.

- LEGO One Piece
Thanks to the live-action series, One Piece hold the rare privilege of being the only manga series with an actual LEGO toyline and it's getting an animated special in the future which cements it as one of those big boy franchises. I've been seeing a lot of demands for a LEGO videogame recently, I personally think this won't happen until the live-action series has covered enough material to fill an entire game. Maybe around season 4 or 5.

- One Piece Xenoverse
idk I just needed a third one

One Piece Ambition looks great
I'd love a Storm type game. Altough the current roster and story is probably too big for it. But I still believe it could be done in two games/parts for the Pre skip and Post skip. Just exclude some lesser fights and storybeats.

A CyberConnect2 One Piece game would be dope. Either like Naruto Ninja Storm or DBZ Kakarot, just a decent action game that goes from East Blue to Marineford

You know, there's been a surge of retro-style beat-em-ups lately. Like TMNT Shredder's Revenge, Power Rangers Rita's Rewind, or Marvel Cosmic Invasion. I wouldn't mind a One Piece themed side-scrolling beat-em-up. One Piece JUST missed the peak of the Arcade scene back in '97. If One Piece had released just a few years earlier, there's a chance we could have seen a game like the Sailor Moon Arcade game back in the day. A One Piece game with some nice retro-style pixel art? Yes, please!

Kart Racer? I don't know, someone had to say it. I think One Piece could make for a fun kart racer, but I'll admit, it wouldn't be my first choice.

A Ghost of Tsushima-style game starring Zoro? I don't know. A game that focuses more on one of the Strawhats that isn't Luffy would be nice, if unlikely. Although, any "samurai" style game would likely be set in Wano, and...I'm still a little Wano'd out, honestly. We've seen some rise in ninja-action games, recently. So, maybe just put Zoro in a stylish side-scrolling slashing platformer ala The Messenger or Ninja Gaiden Ragebound or Shinobi Art of Vengence? I don't know, maybe a New Super Mario Bros 2 or Penny Punching Princess style game starring Nami, where you're goal is more about collecting a ton a money? Or a Professor Layton style point and click mystery game starring Robin trying to solve a murder mystery? A Custom Robo or LBX or Armored Core robot-building style game starring Franky? A Trauma Center style game starring Chopper trying to cure various weird and over the top One Piece World illnesses? Usopp in a First Person Shooter? Cooking Mama, but with Sanji? Brook in a rhythm game, like Crypt of the Necrodancer or Cadence of Hyrule? A Shenmue or Sea of Thieves ship-to-ship fighting style game starring Jinbe?

I honestly wouldn't mind if they just did a Odyssey 2. It had a solid battle system, you could just build off that. Just...maybe lean a little less on Alabasta this time? And maybe lean more into the "What if" scenarios. The first Odyssey game kind of just barely dipped their toes into that idea, and I'd really like to see them go more crazy with it. Really mix up the story.

The Fighting Game and Lego ideas are good ones, too. There's a ton of ways they could go with a new game.

What I would have done with Odyssey is have it where their memories are mixed up, so each of the four levels are heavily distorted and have enemies (and allies) all across them. Like having Ace join as an ally as you fight like Don Krieg and Enel.

I know it's probably never going to happen, but a strategy game where you manage an island in One Piece world would be really cool. Balancing your relationship with World Government and Four Emperors, having dealings with Warlords, Morgans and the underworld, obtaining Devil Fruits for your top combatants, et cetera. Could be some time in the past for original characters or somewhere in a place where Straw Hats never visited so that you can only learn about them occasionally from newspapers.

I can't stop glazing One Piece Ambition, it's easily the best looking One Piece videogame but it's a mobile title exclusive to China

This game needs to have a global release already

Gacha like Genshin(open world), but instead of characters, you can obtain Fruits and Weapons that will allow you to change your attack styles, etc. So Tower Of Fantasy, but better.

The two I would want were already mentioned in the thread.

First is a traditional fighting game from a competent fighting game studio. Not a Storm game or Sparking Zero, but like DBFZ. It's an obvious combination, serving an experience that a subset of the market is craving and therefore would probably do well and have a dedicated community going forward. This is the one that's realistic and inevitable at some point depending on the bandwidth and opportunities of all parties involved. Bamco and ArcSys already collab'd for DBFZ. They could do it again for OP.

The based game would be an open world sandbox PVP MMO. The world is perfect for it. Islands to explore, territory to conqueor, Sea of Thieves-esque traversal, devil fruits in limited quantities, different combat and non-combat skills to develop like haki/swordsmanship/martial arts/navigation/cooking/etc. And, of course, rampant piracy and stakes between crews and ships. But MMO players and (I suspect based on the common patterns of hot topics, agendas, and fragile egos) One Piece fans are bitches that can't handle that type of game. The overlap of the two audiences would be bitch squared. I can't imagine a game where it's possible for players to get negged like Kid and have their treasures stolen, ship destroyed, DF lost on death would ever go well with these "precious" audiences, but it would be the most immersive One Piece thing imaginable. Never happening, but I'd probably say goodbye to my friends and family if it ever did and was good. So it's for the best that it doesn't lol.

But tbh, I'll take a competent game in general. I've never played or seen an OP game that I thought was actually good, which is a problem. So I'm not picky in terms of genre/style.

Like Odyssey seemed promising but I could not stand how remedial and vegetative it was to play and dropped it quickly. They put alot of effort into that game in terms of graphics and writing but it's all a waste. Going from playing interesting modern takes on JRPG gameplay like Expedition 33, Metaphor, Octopath, Unicorn Overlord, etc. to the stale bread of Odyssey's mediocre NES-era combat is difficult to say the least. And the pacing is awful. Everything down to even the basics of moving around is just a slog. Like, I played Chrono Trigger for the first time recently and it's crazy how easy it is to enjoy an old-ass game like that in comparison to Odyssey. Same with FF1, which is as basic as it gets but at least it's also paced better when played via the pixel remaster. It's not trivial to justify spending dozens of hours of my life on a game which is that obese but also simultaneously basic and braindead. I set my bar really low to be able to enjoy a One Piece RPG and it still failed.

Pirate Warriors 3/4 are merely ok overall. They are serviceable and probably some of the best Musou combat, but too repetitive to play for too long like the rest of the genre. Probably the best way to immerse in One Piece here and there at the moment if you just wanna hop in and beat people up as your favourite One Piece characters, though.

Everything else is either too dated, too low in quality/phoned-in compared to other games in the same genre, or just mobile slop. Not interested in any of that.

So yeah, I'll settle for anything, as long as it's good.

If we get a One Piece fighting game, I REALLY hope it's not a tag fighter. There's an overabundance of that subgenre in fighting games these days. A One Piece fighting game should be 1v1 with unique character movesets/mechanics at the forefront.
