Character Discussion Davy Jones was part of Joyboy’s crew

#1

In this dialogue, Nico Robin says that Davy Jones was the boatswain of a certain pirate crew.

Since we know that Davy Jones was a pirate who lived 800 years ago, and that the first pirate in history, who also lived 800 years ago, was Joyboy, it’s natural to assume they were part of the same crew (Joyboy was the captain). This would also explain why Davy Jones carries the D. in his name.

Emet apologizes to Joyboy for not being able to make him king.
According to Xebec, Davy Jones was the previous king of the world.
When Xebec says this to Imu, he completely loses his composure and claims that someone like him was never truly king.
Xebec also mentions a promise between Imu and Davy Jones that was never fulfilled.

This is how I think things went: Davy Jones betrayed Joyboy, making a deal with Imu to seize the throne of the world.
Joyboy fails, Davy Jones becomes king of the world, but in the end Imu betrays him and gets rid of both of his enemies in one move.
From that moment on, Davy Jones swears revenge, promising that one day a descendant of his will return to reclaim what was promised to him.

That descendant is Blackbeard.
He will be the one to absorb Imu and the devil, completing that revenge.
And at that point, the final conflict will be between Luffy and Blackbeard for the One Piece. Whoever finds it will decide the fate of the world.

I think that might be a retcon, I believe davy jones was the king of the D kingdom.

I made this assumption because the ancient Kingdom was the most powerful nation in the world, therefore its King could be regarded as the King of the world.

I think the people with the D. were members of Joyboy’s crew. If everyone from the Ancient Kingdom had the D., we would see it in the names of way more people.

Imu says that Elbaf is D., yet we don’t know any giants with the D. in their name besides Saul. So Elbaf may have been part of the Ancient Kingdom and allied with Joyboy, but Saul’s ancestor was likely the giant who actually belonged to Joyboy’s crew.

Also, Alabasta wasn’t part of the Ancient Kingdom, nor was it allied with it, and yet Lili signs her name with the D.
I think Lili used the D. in her name as a sign of closeness to Joyboy’s crew. It’s like the X mark between Vivi and the Straw Hats.

I find it hard to believe that Davy Jones wasn’t a pirate.

If there really was a king of the world before Imu and Davy Jones it was probably a Lunarian, given that they used to live on the Red Line.

If Davy Jones was actually part of Joyboy’s crew, then the fact that he later became king of the world would strongly imply it came at Joyboy’s expense.
Especially if we consider that Imu and Davy Jones had some kind of agreement or promise that Imu ultimately broke.
