Nah for Luffy standards it's bad. He's not even top 3 if you gave each region 1 seat for placements.

Also in those other manga, other characters are allowed to shine. Naruto was like a side character during most of Shippuden. Gon is a side character in multiple arcs, heck he's not even a side character currently.

It’s not as bad as you’re making it sound honestly. You make it sound like he used to rule every region but in the last popularity poll he only took the top spot in 3 regions

If you look at the rest of the spots in the last popularity poll he didn’t do particularly crazy there either. 6th in Oceania, 4th in Europe, and 3rd in Latin America/Middle East/Africa

Other characters are allowed to shine in One Piece too? Not really a valid excuse especially when some of the characters that beat them out are barely onscreen

Gon is a side character in arcs conducted after the polls though? He didn’t win the first, second, or third polls which were all conducted during/after arcs that he was clearly relevant in

Killua and Kurapika have beaten him in every single poll since the manga’s inception lol

That includes the third poll which was taken during Chimera Ant (Kurapika hadn’t appeared in years)

Luffy is too goofy and Zoro is seen classic stoic badass type. Plus Zoro sword styles is more culturally significant,like constant gag references in movies and real life jokes. It's essentially the same reason why Luffy got overtaken by Zoro in Japan.
